The 35-metre-high tower of the Church of St Peter and Paul (Kostel sv. Petra a Pavla) provides Těšetice with a distinctive landmark. Other highlights include a historical mention dating back to 1078, local whisky production and two cycling routes in different directions. For planning your trip, these can be considered separately: the church and local history offer cultural points of interest, the distillery a connection to whisky-making, and the cycling routes an active alternative. This lets you choose the theme you want to shape your stay.
Church and Historical Traces
The church stands in the centre of the village of Těšetice and is considered a distinctive landmark of the municipality. As a sight, it lies on the Olomouc–Náměšť na Hané route. It can therefore be considered both in the context of the village centre and as part of the named route. Its 35-metre-high tower was added to the church in 1741. On the west side, beside the staircase leading to it, stands a Calvary group dating from 1868. The dates mark different details: 1741 for the addition of the tower, and 1868 for the sculptural group.
The medieval and early modern centre of Těšetice is designated as an area with archaeological finds. Rataje is a separate district of the municipality and offers a different historical point of reference: it was declared a conservation area in 1995. The protected feature is the surviving urban layout of a Haná village, with covered farmyard areas and barns at the ends of the gardens. The designations focus on different things: in Těšetice, the designation concerns the village centre with archaeological finds; in Rataje, the conservation area protects the spatial layout of a Haná village.
Whisky from Těšetice
The first successful distillation of the King Barley brand took place in Těšetice at the end of 1973. TŌSH Whisky is distilled and bottled there and matures in centuries-old cellars directly beneath the distillery. This brings together a dated historical reference to the King Barley brand and specific information about the production and maturation of TŌSH. For whisky enthusiasts, the distinction is useful: 1973 is part of the history of King Barley, while the production and maturation details describe TŌSH.
Cycling Routes and Festival
Cycling route 6034 runs from Těšetice via Velký Kosíř to Čechy pod Kosířem. Cycling route 6025 runs via Vojnice to Těšetice. The main difference when choosing between them is the direction: on route 6034, Těšetice is the starting point in the route described; route 6025 names Vojnice as a stop on the way to Těšetice. Surfaces and signage may change. Check the route and conditions before setting out.
The Těšetické hody festival is linked to the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul. It includes a Mass and refreshments outside the church. If this festival is important to your travel plans, check the specific date before planning your stay around it.
