The T. G. Masaryk Memorial in Loučka tells the story of an extraordinary chapter in the village’s history: it was unveiled on 5 August 1919. The memorial consists of a life-size sandstone bust on a truncated granite pyramid. During the Protectorate, local Sokol members dismantled the memorial and hid the bust in the village well; it was recovered in July 1945. The memorial thus combines a striking form with a turbulent story of concealment and rediscovery.

Memorials and local history

The Chapel of St John the Baptist was built in 1838 on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. A plaque at the chapel commemorates those who fell in both world wars. A stone cross bearing the body of the crucified Christ stands in front of the building. The history of the building, remembrance and religious imagery come together here without losing their distinct meanings.

Loučka’s other monuments of local significance include the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius and a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. Together, these places offer insight into different forms of the community’s religious and historical heritage: from a building with a known date of construction and a war memorial to other religious landmarks.

At the transition between the plain and the highlands

Loučka lies at the beginning of the Bouzovská vrchovina, where the fertile Haná Plain gives way to the rising highlands. This transition shapes the village’s geographical setting: Haná and the uplands are not interchangeable landscapes here, but two distinct, named regions that meet in Loučka.

Waterways and the surrounding area also help orient visitors. The Loučka stream flows directly through the village, while the Cholinka rises south of Loučka. Forests and a water biotope shape the surrounding area. The streams, forest and biotope add a water-rich dimension to the transition between the plain and the highlands.

Routes and activities

For cyclists, the Bouzov–Olomouc route passes through Loučka. A route description published in 2013 gives its length as just under 42 kilometres, rates it as moderately difficult and recommends it for trekking bikes. Check the current route markings and surface conditions before setting off. This information gives a specific idea of the route’s length and difficulty, while local trail conditions remain important for planning.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Cholina railway station to Javoříčko and Bouzov, passing through the neighbouring municipality of Loučka. For the walk from Cholina to Loučka, a path behind the village gardens leads into the village. Check the current route before setting off. This provides both a connection to named destinations and a specific way to reach Loučka from the direction of Cholina.

Recreational fishing is possible at Loučka Pond under the auspices of the local angling association. If you would like to fish there, check the local conditions before taking part. Fishing adds a waterside activity to the routes and memorials; whether it fits your plans depends mainly on whether you are looking for this kind of experience.

Events and practical information

In 2023, 2024 and 2025, Obecní hospoda Loučka hosted public Vepřové hody, or pork feasts. Kančí hody were also held there in 2024. These are past events that help give a sense of local festivities without implying that they will be repeated in a future year.

Loučka has a local general store for everyday shopping. If you plan to shop there, check the opening hours in advance. As well as historical sites and scenic surroundings, the municipality offers a practical place to stop that you can take into account when planning your stay.
