Highlights for your stay in Chomoutov U Olomouce include Chomoutovské jezero, the “Na křídlech ptáků” educational trail, the Hromová cycling path and traces of the village’s history. You can choose between nature topics, a designated walking route, cycling infrastructure and a cultural-historical highlight.

Chomoutovské jezero and its protection rules

Chomoutov lies in the landscape of the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area. Chomoutovské jezero is a natural monument covering 121.28 hectares. The rules for the lake are important when planning your visit: swimming is prohibited throughout the lake. The use of boats is prohibited except as part of the regulated operations of the yacht club based there. If you are planning an outing by the water, do not treat the lake as a swimming destination; instead, take its protection rules into account.

Educational trail and birdwatching

The “Na křídlech ptáků” educational trail is 8.0 kilometres long, designated for walking and easy. Its stops cover a range of topics related to the floodplain landscape: floodplain forests and their water regime, birds in human settlements, Chomoutovské jezero and young wetlands. Other stops focus on the underwater world, beavers, and the bird paradise and birdsong. The topics thus range from landscape and water to specific animal groups and birds.

The ornithological observation point is near the car park on the road to Březce. It includes a sign with illustrations of the birds found at the site. Together with the bird-related topics on the educational trail, it offers a focus on natural history that takes in both habitats and birds.

Hromová cycling path

For cyclists, the Hromová cycling path offers a dedicated way to explore the area. A 1.7-kilometre section leads to Hromův dub and continues to Chomoutov. The cycling path opened on 5 September 2025 and provides a safe connection for cyclists, pedestrians and families with strollers.

The cycling path has freely accessible compressors for inflating bicycle tyres and USB ports for charging mobile phones. There is also a paved pump track and fitness equipment. In addition to providing a connection, Hromová therefore offers specific facilities for cycling and exercise. The route and its facilities have a different focus from the educational trail: here, the cycling path and its amenities take centre stage, while the trail focuses on walking and nature-related topics.

Chapel and statue of the Virgin Mary

One cultural-historical highlight is the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on Hrachoviska Street. It dates from the 19th century. A statue of the Virgin Mary stands beside the chapel; it was erected in 1898 by the Coufal family from Chomoutov. The statue’s specific date and the chapel’s period of origin offer two different points of reference for the village’s history.

The options are easy to distinguish when planning your visit: the educational trail combines an easy walking route with a variety of nature topics, while Hromová provides a cycling connection with named facilities. The chapel and statue add a cultural-historical highlight. Chomoutovské jezero has its own protection rules, which should be taken into account when choosing activities.
