Below the eastern foothills of the Drahanské vrchovina and on the edge of Haná, Senička lies within a clearly defined landscape. The Blata stream runs along the southern edge of the village. At the same time, local highlights range from natural sites such as Rajčur to a multi-period prehistoric site and several historic buildings and cultural monuments. This gives you different focal points for planning your trip: scenery, activities and local history.

Landscape and nature in Rajčur

A report from 2017 describes Rajčur as a revitalized excursion and recreation area in Senička. In a wooded setting, it has a pond and two wetlands, which are intended to provide suitable conditions for preserving native wildlife. Rajčur thus adds a distinct landscape and nature focus to the village’s history.

Nature trail and cycling route

The Eliška z Kunštátu nature trail can be started in Senička and has nine information boards. In the village centre, it passes the Chapel of the Guardian Angels. The trail therefore brings together a dedicated themed route and a local landmark connected with the village’s history.

The marked Olomouc–Náměšť na Hané–Mladeč cycling route also runs through Senička. The nature trail and cycling route appeal to different interests: the information boards and route past the chapel provide the themed focus of the former, while the latter offers a marked route through the village. If you are planning an outing, these details can help you choose between a nature trail and a cycling route.

Chapel and historic traces

The foundation stone of the Chapel of the Guardian Angels was laid on 13 July 1734. Architecturally, it is a single-storey rectangular building with pilasters. Pilasters are flat, wall-mounted pier forms that serve as architectural features. The chapel is listed as a protected cultural monument.

The Senička-Záhumení archaeological site offers a different perspective on time: it is a multi-period prehistoric site. “Multi-period” refers to several prehistoric periods, distinguishing the site from the dated buildings.

The former watermill, built in 1896, is the oldest surviving building in Senička. The reconciliation cross stands in a niche chapel, is about 400 to 500 years old, and is considered the oldest monument in the municipality; it is also listed as a protected cultural monument. The mill and the reconciliation cross represent different superlatives: the oldest surviving building on the one hand, and the oldest monument on the other.

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is another historic landmark with a known date; it dates from 1823. The dates therefore include the approximate age of the reconciliation cross, the precise date when the chapel’s foundation stone was laid, and the years of the statue and watermill.
