Hlubočky can be explored through three distinct themes: activities at attractions and along nature trails, protected landscapes in the Bystřice Valley, and architectural and castle history. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between individual attractions and a longer route that is not a circular trail.

Toboggan run, treetop trail and nature trails

The toboggan run in Hlubočky has 17 bends: ten left-hand bends and seven right-hand bends. It also features two 360-degree carousels, a 45-metre-long bridge and a 9-metre-long tunnel. These figures give a clear picture of the route’s layout and its different features. Before visiting, check the current operating and admission conditions.

In Hrubá Voda, the resort is home to the Kamzíkova treetop trail. Its system combines climbing elements, slides and a rope maze 13 metres above the ground. The facility is suitable for children and adults. If you are looking for an outing with a variety of activities, this offers a different experience from the toboggan run: the focus here is on climbing and play elements rather than bends, a bridge and a tunnel.

The Hrubík the Goblin nature trail is over one kilometre long and has seven educational and entertaining stops. It is designed for families with children. This makes it easy to distinguish from the much longer Údolím Bystřice route: Hrubík is all about the stops along a short nature trail.

Údolím Bystřice is a 13-kilometre, blue-marked route between the railway stations Domašov nad Bystřicí and Hrubá Voda. It runs through the deep valley of the Nízký Jeseník and has eleven stops covering nature, geology and landscape history. The route is not a circular trail. Plan your return journey to suit your starting point, and check the current conditions along the route in advance. Unlike Hrubík, what matters here is not the number of stops but the much greater distance and the route between two railway stations.

Protected nature in the Bystřice Valley

The protected area of Údolí Bystřice covers the cadastral area of Hlubočky and extends across 751 hectares of the valley between Smilovský mlýn and Hlubočky. Its predominantly well-preserved habitats include species-rich and acidophilous—that is, acid-loving—beech forests; ravine forests are also found in smaller areas. To the south are oak-hornbeam forests and dry acidophilous oak forests. Remnants of mesic and wet meadows have been preserved in the river floodplain. The different forest types and meadows give the protected area a varied character.

The Hrubovodské sutě nature reserve lies on the slopes along the right bank of the Bystřice near Hrubá Voda, a district of Hlubočky. It protects geomorphologically diverse areas with natural and near-natural forest ecosystems in the fourth and fifth forest vegetation zones. These include beech, fir-beech and ravine forests, as well as riparian ash-alder forests. Characteristic and endangered wild plant and animal species are also protected. Together with the varied forest and meadow habitats in Údolí Bystřice, the reserve offers a concrete reason to make nature the focus of your trip.

Buildings and history

The branch Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus stands on the village square in Hlubočky, near Školní Street. Another religious landmark is the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in Mariánské Údolí, near the Moravia factory. The two buildings are in different locations and can therefore be considered separate cultural attractions.

Hluboký Castle lies in the Bystřice Valley between the railway stations Hrubá Voda and Hrubá Voda–zastávka, within the cadastral area of the municipality of Hlubočky. The noble residence was built on a rocky, tongue-shaped spur, which the river surrounds on three sides. This setting in the valley defines the castle’s character more than a simple list of buildings would. The earliest surviving written record of the castle dates from 1351; this date refers to the early written record, not to a stated year of construction.

Getting there and planning your accommodation

Hlubočky railway station is on line 310 Olomouc–Opava and the Rýmařov–Valšov connection. If you are planning to travel by train, check the current timetable for your travel dates. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth comparing the accommodation’s specific location with the places you plan to visit and your travel arrangements. This will help you decide whether to focus your stay mainly on nature and trails, the castle and buildings, or a combination of these themes.
