St. Ägidien Church in Huzová has a Romanesque core. Its furnishings combine ornamental wall paintings, colored stained-glass windows and decorated altars with a Neoclassical pulpit. On the exterior, there is a glazed niche featuring a biblical scene. The interior and exterior wall offer different architectural details, drawing attention to various forms of design.

Church, local history and historical landmarks

A document by Bishop Zdík mentions Huzová in 1141 under its original name, Guzoue. The village was probably intended from the beginning of settlement as a transit station on the road from Olomouc to Wrocław. This early history connects a specific year and a recorded place name with a cautiously worded interpretation of Huzová’s role at the time.

Historical livelihoods are also part of the story of the village: flax growing and processing, as well as weaving at home, were important activities for the population. This craft history complements the visible evidence of religious art with a glimpse into past work and everyday life. It should be understood as historical context; it does not indicate that a workshop or related activity is available today.

The stone and sculptural landmarks are spread across different locations. In front of the church stands a stone cross dating from 1827; by the cemetery wall is a statue of St. Joseph from the first quarter of the 19th century. On the edge of the village stands the Marian Column, an unusually composed sculpture dating from 1710 and attributed to a folk artist. The different dates provide a chronological reference, while each location and subject has its own character.

Another architectural landmark in Huzová is Dolní mlýn: it is the only surviving one of three mills built in succession. Together with the church, cross, statue and Marian Column, it broadens the view beyond a single building to encompass the various historical traces found in the village.

Hiking trails and scenery in Sovinecko Nature Park

Sovinecko Nature Park is characterized by deep valleys and striking slopes covered in dense forest. Huzová is a gateway to the marked hiking trails in the nature park, with bus connections. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable in advance; bus services may change.

The destinations described offer different points of reference when choosing a hike. A blue-marked trail leads from Huzová via Pod Líchou and the Teplička Valley to Sovinec Castle. In the Teplička Valley, a route runs along the river and continues via Pod Karlovcem to the small settlement of Pasecký Žleb. This gives you a choice of different destinations: a castle, a stretch of river and a small settlement.

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads east from Huzová to the 706-meter-high summit of Pomezí and onward toward the 800-meter-high summit of Slunečná. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their course and destinations: the castle, valley and settlement are contrasted with the peaks to the east. Choose your direction based on the place you want to include in your hiking plans, rather than inferring a walking time or difficulty that is not specified. Check the route locally before setting out.

For a short visit to Huzová, the focus is on local history and its varied landmarks; for hiking, there are the marked trails and scenery of Sovinecko. You can plan your stay around cultural interests, a specific hiking destination or a combination of both, without treating the routes as a circuit that is not described.
