A circular walk through the castle park and the small blue flowers of the Austrian squill in early spring represent two different sides of a stay in Náměšť na Hané: architectural history and seasonal nature. The town also has distinctive buildings, the landscape of Terezské Valley, and a brewery restaurant. When planning your trip, you can focus on the castle and local history, nature observation, or both.

Castle and Park

Náměšť na Hané Castle was built in 1766 in the French early Classicist style. On all four sides, lime tree avenues connect the castle park surrounding the building to a circular path. A park path with benches and lighting also runs through the castle grounds. If these facilities are important to your plans, check their current condition before visiting. The castle grounds can be explored on four tours; as tour arrangements may change, it is advisable to check the current visiting options in advance.

The castle’s Zlatý salonek (Golden Salon) houses a collection of Meissen porcelain that includes a large chandelier. Two archiepiscopal carriages are displayed in the service entrance. These details add insights into the furnishings and different areas of the estate to its architectural history.

Buildings and Local History

The present-day Church of St. Kunhuta was built after the old church was demolished on 26 July 1871. The foundation stone was blessed on 17 October of the same year. The church building and tower were raised to roof level in 1872; the solemn consecration took place on 21 October 1873. The statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary in Náměšť na Hané was created in 1709 by David Johann Zürn the Younger, a Baroque sculptor from Olomouc. The family crypt of the noble Kinský family is also part of the town’s history: it was built in the Empire style, and its crypt holds three generations of the Náměšť Kinský family. As you explore the town, you’ll encounter traces of buildings and history from different periods.

Terezské Valley Through the Seasons

The Terezské Valley Nature Reserve stretches between Náměšť na Hané and Laškov. It is of exceptional geomorphological, botanical, zoological, and archaeological value. The Terezské údolí nature trail runs across meadows and along field and forest tracks in the valley of the Šumice River, passing sites with thermophilic plants. The landscape, plant life, and archaeological significance are distinct aspects of the area.

The flowers also change over the course of the year. In the warmer months, wildflowers bloom in meadows and wetlands; in early spring, the Austrian squill shows its small blue flowers there. If you’d like to plan your trip around botanical observations, this distinction between early spring and the warmer months is a useful guide. It describes different seasonal features, not the same flowers at every time of year.

Getting There and Places to Eat

Náměšť na Hané has a bus stop and a railway station. From both stops, the red-marked hiking route leads uphill to the castle in about ten minutes. This is an approximate time; check route conditions before travelling and allow for the climb accordingly.

The Náměšťský pivovar (Náměšť Brewery) grounds include a brewery restaurant and a garden seating area. Along with beer, they serve smoked and grilled specialities. This makes a specific place to eat another option alongside the castle, local history, and nature, without requiring you to choose just one focus for your trip in advance.
