Visitors looking to combine local history with swimming and exercise will find several different points of interest in Bělkovice-Lašťany: a traditional spring custom, chapels with clearly dated construction and restoration histories, and municipal bathing and sports facilities. Nearby Bělkovické údolí offers a broader view of the surrounding area. Two questions may help you choose your destination: are you mainly interested in local cultural heritage, or would you also like to include sports and time by the water?
A traditional spring custom
The old Ježíškovy matičky custom has been documented in Bělkovice-Lašťany since around 1848. The processions welcomed spring and celebrated the Resurrection of Christ. Local versions of the custom take place separately in Lašťany and Bělkovice. Since 2018, the custom has been listed under the name “Velikonoční slavnosti Matiček a Ježíškových Matiček na Hané Olomoucký kraj” in the Czech Republic’s list of intangible cultural heritage of traditional folk culture. The tradition thus offers a distinctive way to explore local history, focusing on a traditional procession, its seasonal occasion and its religious significance.
Chapels and monuments
The Chapel of Panny Marie Lurdské dates from 1820; above its entrance is a 30 cm-high porcelain figure of the Virgin Mary. The Chapel of sv. Floriána by the pond dates from 1802. Its roof features a small bell tower with a bell. At Panny Marie Lurdské, the figure above the entrance is a notable detail; at sv. Florián, it is the small bell tower and bell on the roof.
The Chapel of Panny Marie Čenstochovské on the road to Dolany dates from 1710 and was completely reconstructed in 2017. This date is earlier than the dates given for the chapels from 1802 and 1820; 2017 marks a later reconstruction. The statue of Jan Žižka in Lašťany was also renovated in 2017. This is distinct from the monument to Jan Žižka of Trocnov by the pond, which was ceremonially unveiled on 29 June 1924.
Swimming and sports
Koupaliště Bělkovice-Lašťany has two pools of different sizes: the large swimming pool measures 50 m × 20 m, and the children’s pool 19.5 m × 7.5 m. If you are considering making the swimming pool a focus of your stay, you can compare the sizes of the two pools directly.
Sports facilities also include two artificial-turf courts for five-a-side football, nohejbal and tennis. The artificial-turf court in Bělkovice-Lašťany has a booking system for five-a-side football; check the current booking conditions before making plans. The fitness trail behind the sports ground has nine exercise stations. Swimming, court sports and exercising on the fitness trail offer different ways to include physical activity in your stay.
Cycle path and surroundings
In 2019, the purpose-built road and cycle path from Bělkovice-Lašťany to Dolany were completed. Tourists can use the cycle path without conflicting with public transport. Nearby is Bělkovické údolí, considered a recreational area with beautiful natural surroundings. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore take into account both a cycle path with a named destination and a nearby natural landscape.
