The Hvozdnice nature trail can be reached from Uhlířov and is suitable for walkers and cyclists. The surrounding area is ideal for nature walks all year round. The mixed forests around Uhlířov also offer opportunities to gather mushrooms and wild berries; the relevant rules apply. This gives you different options for planning your day: follow the nature trail, explore the countryside on foot or set aside time for gathering.

Nature between the ponds and the Hvozdnice

One specific landscape feature is the pond system of Přední and Zadní, which are connected by the Uhlířovský potok stream. The stream flows into the Hvozdnice River. The Hvozdnice Nature Reserve is also named after the river: it lies within the cadastral areas of Slavkov, Štáblovice and Uhlířov. In the northern part of Uhlířov’s cadastral area, the forests border the nature reserve. The protection order came into effect on 1 January 1989. The local waterways and the nature reserve’s location across several cadastral areas are distinct features of the landscape.

Local history and traditions

The earliest surviving written mention of Uhlířov dates back to 1389. At that time, the village was a fief of the Olomouc Bishopric in the so-called Keřkov district. Uhlířov probably originated as a settlement of Slavkov; the place name is also likely derived from charcoal burners who made charcoal there. The first school building was constructed in 1861; in 1883, an independent one-class school was officially established. The two dates mark different milestones: the construction of a building and the later establishment of the school as an institution. František Miroslav Juchelka was the first teacher at this independent school. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua was built in 1871. The war memorial on the village green stands on the site of the former chapel and commemorates residents who died in concentration camps and during the battles for liberation.

Traditional local events include “vodění medvěda” (the bear procession) and the felling of the maypole; Christmas and Easter folk customs are also part of local tradition. Alongside buildings and historical dates, local customs offer another way to explore Uhlířov’s history.

Getting there and choosing a suitable place to stay

Two details can help you plan your journey: Štáblovský mlýnek railway stop is about 1 km from Uhlířov, and local buses connect the village with the district town. These details relate to different travel options: an approximate distance to the railway stop and a bus connection to the district town. Check the current train and bus timetables before setting off.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose Uhlířov based on the focus you want for your stay: nature walks and the Hvozdnice nature trail on the one hand, or local history and traditional customs on the other. This can help you decide which of these aspects you would like to shape your stay before you start looking.
