In Raduň, you can encounter various chapters of castle history: tours take you through living quarters and tell of a journey to South Africa; the orangery and Renaissance church offer their own architectural highlights. Marked trails and a bus route provide additional ways to find your bearings locally. When planning, you can decide whether castle history, architecture or outdoor activities should shape your stay.
Castle tours with different focuses
The tour “Jižní zámek A (základní okruh)” showcases the aristocratic family’s reception rooms as well as the private quarters of the domestic staff. Together, these rooms convey the lifestyle of the castle’s residents from the early 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. The tour thus combines a look at the formal side of castle life with the rooms reserved for the domestic staff.
“Vzpomínky na Afriku – aristokrat na cestě do neznáma” takes a different approach. This tour follows the footsteps of Count Gebhard Blücher and his journey to southern Africa in 1894. “Teplo domova: technické zázemí raduňského zámku” offers a third perspective: the tour leads into the attic rooms, roof spaces and cellar of Raduň Castle. The tours therefore differ in both subject matter and the areas visited, rather than telling the same castle story in just one way. The technical tour’s seasonal availability may change; check the current visiting dates before planning.
Orangery, church and castle park
The “Oranžérie s okrasnou zahradou C” visitor attraction comprises a neoclassical orangery dating from 1825 to 1826. It also includes an adjoining ornamental and herb garden, as well as an orchard. When planning a visit, it is worth checking the arrangements for your chosen date, as visitor arrangements may change. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Raduň offers a different architectural comparison: it was built between 1598 and 1603 and is a single-nave Renaissance church. Its architectural design is associated with a defensive or fortification function.
The Raduň State Castle is the largest cultural monument in Raduň. The castle park is also part of the area’s historical character: it was laid out as an English-style park for romantic walks and carriage rides. A culturally focused trip can therefore take in a range of architectural styles and historical themes – from the castle and its tours to the orangery and the church. The construction dates help put the distinctly different historical periods into context.
Hiking trail, cycling route and bus
A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Raduň. To the north, it heads towards Opava; to the south, it passes the castle and follows the Raduňka stream valley as far as Jakubčovice. These directions and place names give you specific reference points when choosing a route for your stay.
For cycling, Route 6078, “Údolím Raduňky,” is another option. It runs along the edge of Raduň Castle Park and leads from Fulnek to Opava. On foot, the yellow-marked trail heads north towards Opava and south as far as Jakubčovice; by bike, Route 6078 runs from Fulnek to Opava.
The boundary of Moravice Nature Park runs through the cadastral area of Raduň. This is another landscape feature that helps place the town in context. The town bus route 218 from Opava is listed as a specific public transport connection. In Raduň, it serves the Jednota and Raduň – škola stops. As timetables may change, check the current schedule before travelling.
