A pond with a long history in the area, floodplain landscape along the Opava and music at the Loděnice give Děhylov its distinctive character. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether nature, architectural history, trails or a visit to the Loděnice should shape your stay.
Ponds and floodplains along the Opava
Děhylov lies on the northern slopes of one of the easternmost foothills of the Nízký Jeseník. Žabinec is one of the area's two large ponds; it has been mentioned since the 17th century. This makes it one of the area's historic landscape features. The Děhylovský potok–Štěpán locality represents a different type of landscape: it lies on the boundary between the municipality of Děhylov and the city of Ostrava, on the right bank of the Opava.
This locality includes a pond basin in the broad, flat floodplain, the Děhylovský potok stream and adjoining wetlands. Fire-bellied toads, weatherfish and yellow clubtails can be found there. Unlike Žabinec, which is a single pond, the locality encompasses a floodplain landscape of basins, a stream and wetlands. The Poštovní rybník pond is also part of the Jilešovice-Děhylov area.
Historic monument and religious services
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Děhylov is a protected cultural monument. Religious services are still held in the chapel today. Its monument status and continued religious use go hand in hand: the chapel is both a historic building and an active place of worship.
The Loděnice on the Opava
The Loděnice is an excursion restaurant with an outdoor area in a picturesque location on the Opava. A cycle path runs along the Loděnice, following the right bank of the Opava. Paddlers stop at the natural harbour near the Loděnice. This means the restaurant, riverside route and landing point for paddlers each offer a different way to experience the area.
Every Sunday, music in a variety of styles is played at the Loděnice free of charge for all visitors; this programme has been running for more than 30 years. If you would like to include the music in your plans, Sunday is the right day to visit. The Loděnice thus combines an outing on the Opava with a regular music programme.
Nature trail, hiking route and travel
A 2.5 km nature trail leads through the forest and back to Děhylov between fields. Nine stops provide information about Dobroslavice and Děhylov, the history of the park, and fauna, flora and rocks. The stops give the trail an educational focus, covering local place names, park history and nature topics.
According to the route description, the Háj–Děhylov hiking route follows green-marked trails through Dobroslavice to Děhylov railway station; check the trail markings on site. One difference between the two routes is also their endpoint: the nature trail leads back to Děhylov, while the hiking route continues to the railway station. This may be relevant when planning the rest of your trip.
Děhylov railway station is on the Opava–Ostrava railway line. Check departure times before travelling, as train services may change.
