Brumovice offers three distinct themes to guide your travel planning: nature, cycling and culture. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose your focus based on whether a protected meadow habitat, a cycling route or historic sites will shape your stay. These different themes make it possible to choose with a clear purpose rather than focusing on a single excursion destination.

Hořina Nature Reserve

The Hořina Nature Reserve extends across the cadastral areas of Brumovice u Opavy and Velké Heraltice. It protects wet meadows with an original population of the Carpathian crocus (Crocus heuffelianus). The combination of meadow habitat and plant population gives the nature theme a specific focus. For travellers interested in plants, the Carpathian crocus is a particular botanical point of interest; the wet meadows define the habitat being protected.

Cycling routes and their courses

Cycling Route No. 55, the “Slezská magistrála,” passes through Brumovice and connects Krnov, Opava and Velké Hoštice. A second option is Cycling Route No. 6159: it runs from the centre of Úblo towards Pocheň and then over the slopes of the Ve Smrčí and U Lesovny hills to Úvalno. The two routes differ in their landmarks: No. 55 passes through Brumovice and connects three places; No. 6159 starts in the centre of Úblo and continues over the named slopes to Úvalno. Before riding Route No. 6159, it may be helpful to check the route locally.

Pocheň as a recreational area

Pocheň is a recreational area within the administrative area of Brumovice; the Pocheň reservoir is used for recreation. Unlike Hořina, the focus here is on recreational use, while Hořina is defined by its protected wet meadows and Carpathian crocus population. This puts specific plant and habitat protection alongside recreation as distinct themes for travel planning.

Vartnov and historic structures

The archaeological site of Vartnov lies north of the settlement of Pocheň and south of the Čižina stream. Vartnov is a small medieval fortification dating from the early 14th century; remains of walls have been preserved in its eastern part. Its location and construction history offer different points of reference: the settlement and the stream situate Vartnov geographically, while the wall remains convey the fortification’s architectural character. Both its location and the surviving remains are therefore relevant to understanding its historical significance.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary forms an ensemble that includes a cemetery, an enclosure wall with gates, a mortuary, a former fire station and a stone cross. The Church of the Holy Redeemer is a prominent landmark of the settlement on the approach from Brumovice. The two church-related sites offer different perspectives: the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is part of an ensemble comprising several elements, while the Church of the Holy Redeemer stands out as a landmark.
