Vršovice lies on the slopes of the Nízký Jeseník. The town offers several specific points of interest to consider when choosing accommodation: forests and higher elevations, chapels with different historical connections, and trails for walking and cycling. The approximately 1.5 km meadow trail and the three historic stops on the educational trail appeal to different interests; cycle route 6055, in turn, passes through several named places.
Landscape and views
The elevation ranges from 276 m in the fields towards Opava to 525 m at the summit of Šance. Much of the cadastral area is covered by forests; Vršovice is also part of Moravice Nature Park. The elevation figures and forested areas offer different points of reference if you want to consider Vršovice as a destination for a stay in the countryside.
From the Chapel of Panny Marie sedmibolestné on Brdlice, you can look out over the surrounding area and Opava. On a clear day, the Jeseníky mountains are also visible. This makes the viewpoint a specific place: the chapel on Brdlice.
Chapels and history
The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of the Lord was built in 1909 and reconstructed in 2001. The two dates distinguish the original construction from the later reconstruction; during Advent, the chapel is festively illuminated. Anyone interested in sacred architecture will find both a historical reference and a recurring seasonal feature here.
The Chapel of Panny Marie Bolestné in Vršovice is an immovable cultural monument. It stands beneath centuries-old linden trees on the access road from the direction of Chvalíkovice. The wooden Chapel of Panny Marie sedmibolestné, consecrated in 1949, is also located on Brdlice. Beside this chapel, a monument erected in 1924 commemorates those who fell in the First World War.
On foot and by bicycle
The Vršovická pohádková stezka runs for approximately 1.5 km across the meadows of Vršovice. It leads from the last houses towards the forester’s lodge and ends at the playground above the Vršovice kindergarten. Its length, route across the meadows and endpoint provide a concrete outline if you are considering including a short walk in your plans.
The Raduň–Jakubčovice educational trail covers a different subject. It includes a stop at the forester’s lodge near Vršovice, 4 km from Raduň. Three information stations cover the plane crash, its crew and the Liberator B-24 aircraft type. The two trails can be distinguished by their focus: the Vršovická pohádková stezka is described in terms of its approximate length and endpoint, while the educational trail focuses on the historical subjects covered by its stations.
Cycling is another point to consider when choosing a destination. Marked cycle route No. 6055 passes through Branka u Opavy, Chvalíkovice, Vršovice and Raduň. Vršovice is also on the “Údolí Raduňky a okolí” cycle network. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider these walking and cycling routes alongside the chapels and landscape as different aspects of the town.
