The Trnávka flows through the valley of Kateřinice; several trails on Kamenný Hill lead to views of the Beskydy Mountains. Other attractions include the reservoir as a recreational area, a former Baroque castle with remains of the earlier water castle, and several cycling routes and circuits. If you are considering Kateřinice as a travel destination, you can tailor your choice to different interests: views, recreation by the water, local history or cycling.
Landscape and walks
The Trnávka stream flows through the valley of Kateřinice, giving the landscape a waterside valley setting. Kamenný Hill offers a different perspective: several trails lead to the top, with views of the Beskydy Mountains and the surrounding landscape. If you are looking for a walk with a view, this is a particular highlight. The Trnávka and Kamenný Hill thus offer two different perspectives on the area: the stream in the valley and the view from the hill.
Recreation at the reservoir
The reservoir is used for recreational sports and fishing all year round. It is also a recreational area and a natural swimming spot; swimming is one of the possible activities. This offers a different focus for planning your day than Kamenný Hill: recreation by the water rather than a walk with a view.
Water castle and Baroque castle
The original water castle was converted into a Baroque castle shortly after 1698 under Maxmilián and Václav Harasovský. Late Gothic stone vaulted cellars and an old stone well remain from the water castle. The well is 1.2 metres in diameter and 7 metres deep. The later conversion and the surviving parts of the earlier complex therefore stand side by side: the Baroque castle on the one hand, and the cellars and well on the other.
The former castle is now privately owned and serves as a family home. When planning your visit, you should therefore not assume that the interior is open to the public.
Cycling routes and local tradition
Cycling Route No. 6134 passes through Kateřinice, runs from Příbor to Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí and is 12 kilometres long. The Kraków–Moravia–Vienna Greenways route also passes through the area and forms part of the Castles and Nature of Poodří circuit. The Kravařsko circuit also passes through Kateřinice. There is a difference to consider when choosing a route: Route 6134 has two named endpoints and a stated length; Greenways is part of a circuit, while Kravařsko is another circuit passing through the area.
The local Krmáš, also called Posvícení, is regularly celebrated on the first Sunday after All Souls’ Day and is usually accompanied by a dance. If you would like to experience the local festival, you can use this recurring date to help plan your trip.
Kateřinice as a place to stay
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Kateřinice, your preferred focus can help you decide where to stay. Kamenný Hill offers walking trails and views, the reservoir offers recreation by the water, and the castle and water castle reflect local history. Cycling routes and circuits add touring options to these themes. Before booking, you can weigh up which of these interests you would like to shape your stay.
