Staré Město combines a striking river landscape with traces of local history. At Profil Morávky, rock ledges, rapids and gravel terraces shape the gorge-like riverbed; there are also walks in the nature monument zone and cycling trips in the surrounding area. Churches, chapels and historic Jamnice offer a different focus. When planning, you can first decide whether you want to devote most of your time to the landscape, local history or both.

River Landscape and Excursions

In the Profil Morávky area, the Morávka River forms a gorge-like riverbed with rock ledges, rapids and gravel terraces. These features give the river area its distinctive character: the landscape includes not only water but also rock steps and gravel banks. Above Staré Město, Hůrky is another landmark. At 342 metres, the hill is the highest point above the town.

From Staré Město, you can take walks in the Profil Morávky nature monument zone; the surrounding area is also suitable for cycling trips. These are two different ways to plan time outdoors: a walk in the designated nature zone or a cycling trip around the municipality. Conditions in the protected area may vary, and you should check specific cycling routes locally.

Churches, Chapels and Historical Traces

The Church of St Joseph in Staré Město is dedicated to Saint Joseph. Another religious landmark is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the road from Staré Město to Baška. Local farmers built it in 1878 in gratitude for the harvest. If you visit the chapel, check its condition again on site.

The Na Skotni Chapel is on the road from Staré Město to Skalice. A description from 2025 calls it well maintained but carefully locked; the fully wooden door makes it difficult to look inside. Check the access situation again before your visit. The two chapels therefore differ not only in their locations on roads leading in different directions, but also in the access situation described for Na Skotni.

Another historical trace is historic Jamnice: it was a settlement with a fortification on the trade route from Moravia to the Těšínsko region. This connection to the trade route broadens the view beyond individual buildings to the history of the place. Together with the church and chapels, Jamnice offers its own reason to explore the area’s past during your trip.

Planning Your Journey and Accommodation

By train, travel to Frýdek-Místek railway station; from there, continue on foot, by bus or by taxi. Check current train and bus timetables as you prepare for your arrival. If travelling by road, the route from Frýdek-Místek continues along road II/477 towards Baška. This gives you two different routes to use as a guide, without implying any particular length of stay.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Staré Město, factor your planned route into your accommodation arrangements. For train travel, this also means planning onward travel or a walk from Frýdek-Místek railway station; if travelling by road, you can take the route along II/477 towards Baška into account. For planning your stay, the nature monument zone, cycling trips and historic buildings offer different themes to choose from. You can decide which of them will shape your stay according to your interests.
