Kaňovice combines nature watching at Kamenec Pond with individual places of remembrance and architecturally valuable buildings. When planning your stay, you can focus on an excursion to the water or on local architecture and commemorative heritage. The specific destinations differ both in theme and location.
Kamenec Pond and walking destinations
At the pond there is a covered wooden shelter with seating, intended for relaxing and observing nature. Around Kamenec, information boards feature animal illustrations and details about the pond. If these facilities are important to your visit, check in advance whether the shelter and boards are still there; they may change.
A hiking route in Kaňovice leads to the Lunčiska Biocentre. It therefore has a different named destination from the walking trail to Kamenec Pond: the Biocentre is the focus there, while the pond is the main destination here. You can choose according to the kind of nature destination you prefer. Conditions on local trails may change; check them before setting out on a hike.
Getting there and the walking trail’s starting point
The circular trail to Kamenec starts at the “Kaňovice, točna” stop on route 383. There is parking and a shelter at the starting point, so both the stop and the parking option can help you find your way. Before taking a bus to the starting point, check the latest information for route 383, as transport connections may change.
A 164-metre shared pedestrian and cycle path has also been completed in Kaňovice. It provides safer access to a bus stop. The section is shared by pedestrians and cyclists and supplements the local transport infrastructure.
Places of remembrance and buildings
A monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands in the park in front of the municipal office. Beside road II/473 is a brick-built chapel dating from 1893; a stone cross from 1933 also stands along this road. In Zádolí there is a stone cross from 1924. In Závrší there is a brick-built chapel, one of the architecturally valuable buildings. A timber-framed wooden house is also among Kaňovice’s architecturally and historically valuable buildings. Beside Mrs Karasová’s house stands a cross dedicated to Saint Florian.
The dates 1893, 1924 and 1933 place the chapel and the two stone crosses in chronological order. The construction methods also offer a point of comparison: the chapels are brick-built, while the house is timber-framed. The memorials also have different associations—the monument commemorates the victims of the world wars, while the cross beside Mrs Karasová’s house is dedicated to Saint Florian. When exploring local architecture and commemorative heritage, you can therefore pay attention to dates, materials and dedications.
