Třinec brings together a range of things to discover: the history of the ironworks, historic buildings, contemporary art, and trails through forests and meadows. There are also specific opportunities for astronomy, nature observation, and sporting activities. The focus you choose can shape your trip – from exploring the city’s history to visiting a workshop or event.
Industrial History and Historic Buildings
The Museum of the Třinec Ironworks and the City of Třinec is open to the public and is a good starting point for anyone interested in the history of the ironworks and the city. The M. Koperník Observatory also connects a historic link with a current topic: it opened to the public in 1955. Its current program includes, among other things, observations of the Moon. If this is important to your visit, check the current program in advance.
The Church of St. Albert in Třinec is Neo-Gothic and was built between 1882 and 1885. Since 2010, the church and the adjacent rectory have been protected as historic monuments. The Vápenná pec Jasiowka lime kiln in the Borek district offers a different perspective on industrial history: lime was burned there until the 1960s.
Dřevěnky na Borku is about historic housing and living conditions. The site includes two log houses dating from 1878, which are registered as cultural monuments. Visitors can tour four residential units and learn how people used to live, work, and make a living. This visit therefore focuses not only on the buildings, but also on everyday life in the past.
Art, Workshops and Events
Galerie města Třince makes contemporary art accessible to the public through exhibitions of loaned works. When it was established on April 1, 2012, the aim was to create a professional exhibition space in Třinec with a curatorial program. Malá Galerie in the Třinec Library also offers art classes and workshops to the public. So, as well as visiting exhibitions, you can take part in hands-on creative activities.
A regular creative workshop is PŘIJĎ TVOŘIT, for families with children aged 6 to 12. KUKni is regularly held for children aged 3 to 6 and their parents. The gathering at the Třinec Library combines books with movement and creative activities. The age ranges distinguish the two programs; check the specific dates if you want to include one in your travel plans.
ČteFesT takes place every year around the turn of May and June – at the library, in Třinec, and in the mountains. The annual program includes author readings, discussions, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and informal get-togethers. If the festival is a reason for your trip, check the specific event dates against your travel period.
Special Insights into Sport and City Life
The WERK ARENA Tour offers a comprehensive look around the home arena of HC Oceláři Třinec and must be booked in advance. The areas included are VIP areas except GOLD VIP, the ice surface with the timekeeper’s box, players’ benches and penalty boxes, the first team’s locker room with fitness room, the mixed zone, and the press center. On request, the tour can also be held in English or Polish; this must be requested at least one week in advance.
Nature Trail, Forest Park and Activities
The Naučná stezka na Jahodné nature trail is 2,700 meters long and crosses the Jahodná hill through forests and meadows. The hill’s flora and fauna are also among the trail’s topics; it has 12 stations in total. The trail starts at the Dolní Lištná, Sosna nemocnice stop, served by bus routes 715 and 701. As routes may change, check the bus connection before setting off.
A forest observation station is located in the minigolf and children’s rope park area. Fun observation activities, a bird silhouette, and a mobile app invite visitors to spot forest animals such as deer, squirrels, and foxes and hear their calls. The children’s rope park is a nature-based recreational area where participants make their way between trees over obstacles made of ropes, nets, and wooden beams. Those who would rather play a round can find the STARS Třinec minigolf course, with 18 holes, in Třinec Forest Park. Observation, climbing, and minigolf each offer a different focus.
Javorový has ski slopes and cross-country trails for winter activities; snow conditions and services vary by season. Visitors can also try paragliding there, including tandem flights. Check the availability of this activity in advance.
