Baška combines relaxation by the reservoir with paths through the landscape, church history and events. The differences are clear when planning a trip: in addition to swimming and water sports, there is a walking path of about 3 km along the shore and a 21 km moderately difficult hiking loop. St. Wenceslas Church, chapels and event dates add historical and cultural points of interest to the mix.
Reservoir and Paths
The Baška Reservoir is primarily a place for recreation. It is suitable for swimming and water sports, but is not intended as a source of drinking water. A walking path of about 3 km runs along its shore, offering views of the surrounding landscape. Water activities and the lakeside path offer two different ways to experience the reservoir.
If you would like a longer hike, you can include the signposted “To the Most Beautiful Sunsets” loop in your plans. It is 21 km long and rated as moderately difficult. The route passes the Baška Reservoir and Baška railway station. Compared with the approximately 3 km walking path along the shore, it is considerably longer and also has a difficulty rating. Choose the walking path for lakeside views; the hiking loop also passes Baška railway station. This lets you choose your route based on the desired distance and the stated difficulty rating.
Church and Local Traditions
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Wenceslas in Baška is a filial church of the Skalice parish. It was solemnly consecrated on 22 October 1933. It was built through the efforts of dedicated members of the St. Wenceslas Church Association. Its history brings together its consecration on 22 October 1933, its affiliation with the Skalice parish and its construction by dedicated members of the St. Wenceslas Church Association.
The reconstructed chapel near the “Kotva” restaurant in Baška was consecrated at a local celebration. A different kind of tradition surrounds the chapel on Radový: according to a local legend, a church once stood at its location. Thus, a consecration ceremony and a legend about the site of a former church stand side by side.
Music and Food Events
The edition of Baška Žije scheduled for 22 August 2026 was planned as a one-day music festival on the shore of the Baška Reservoir. The event was scheduled to run from 14:00 to 24:00; it was announced as the fourth edition. If you plan to visit Baška in a later year, check the event dates for that year.
The 2026 GulášFest was planned to include public tastings of non-competitive goulash dishes, followed by a public vote and a decision by a professional jury. The format may change in later editions.
