A wooden building that once housed the original school, dating from 1852; a path along the edge of a protected primeval forest; and seven panels about trades of the past show three different sides of Dolni Lomna. These offer a range of focuses for planning your stay, from local history to nature and outdoor activities. The museum, wooden complex and educational trails each have their own character.
Culture and Local History
The Lomňanské Museum is housed in the wooden building of the original school, dating from 1852. Its collection brings together the historical heritage of Lomná’s residents in chronicles, photo albums, recordings of older residents and original exhibits. Written records, images, voices and objects offer different ways to explore the history of the community.
Annual events at the museum include carriage races, an autumn market, Easter and Christmas exhibitions, and displays of nativity scenes and historical photographs. Event dates may vary. If a particular market or exhibition is important to your trip, check the current dates in advance.
Zbojnická stezka is a wooden complex in the heart of Dolni Lomna. It tells stories of bandits, the history of the Lomná Valley and the people who live there. The complex includes a ropes course, climbing wall, slides and climbing frames; there are also wood carvings to see. Unlike the museum collection, the focus here is on stories about the valley, presented in a purpose-built wooden setting.
Zemědělský dvorek includes a wooden hayloft with an exhibition of traditional sheep’s milk products. It offers another glimpse of rural tradition.
Beskydy Forests and Nature
The Mionší educational trail runs along the edge of Mionší Primeval Forest. Mionší Primeval Forest is protected as a national nature reserve and is considered one of the best-preserved forest complexes in the Moravian part of the Western Carpathians.
The URSUS centrum presents the local mountain ecosystem through several formats: a 3D film about the Beskydy, an interactive presentation of local fauna, a large model of the Beskydy and an interactive garden. In addition to these features, the centre offers environmental programs, including outdoor exploration activities for children, families and the general public.
From the Rozhledna Tetřev observation tower, views extend across the surrounding mountain ridges and the valleys of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy. There is also an indoor exhibition about local fauna and flora. Jestřábí vodopád is a three-metre-high waterfall on a small tributary of Jestřábí potok. These offer contrasting natural sights: views across ridges and valleys, and a waterfall on a small stream tributary.
Educational Trails and Seasonal Activities
Stezka krajinou dávných horalů starts at the information centre on Matyščina louka and is primarily suitable for walkers. Seven wooden panels offer insights into the lives and trades of people who lived there more than 100 years ago, most of whose work was connected with forestry. The educational trail thus combines a walking route with insights into the area’s former working life.
The information centre in Dolni Lomna is a starting point for the municipality’s educational trails. Another way to get around the valley is the cycle path in the Lomná Valley: cyclists and inline skaters use it, and in winter it serves as a cross-country ski trail, depending on conditions. If you plan to go cross-country skiing in winter, check conditions in advance.
