Moravka combines marked hiking trails, mountain scenery and historic memorial sites. The entire municipality lies within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. Deep mountain valleys and wild mountain streams define the area, making nature trails and a variety of cultural and historical themes central to planning your trip.

Mountain Scenery and Water

One of the protected areas in Moravka is the TravnĂ˝ Nature Reserve. On the western slope of TravnĂ˝, it protects natural remnants of forest stands at elevations between 530 and 1,203 metres. This offers a way to understand not only the mountain valley landscape but also a specific protected area and its distinctive range of elevations.

The MorĂĄvka Reservoir was built between 1961 and 1967, primarily as a source of drinking water and for flood protection. If you visit, it is important to be aware of the current restrictions: because the reservoir is used for water supply, all recreational activities and fishing are prohibited there. Check this regulation again before your trip.

Hiking Trails and a Riverside Educational Trail

Moravka has a dense network of marked hiking trails, in place since the first half of the 20th century. These include the ridge trail from Bílý Kříž via Prašivá. If you are planning a specific route, check the markings for your chosen trail on site.

Another highlight is the “Prameny Morávky” educational trail: it leads from the car park in the Lipové district through the Morávka valley to the river’s source. Its themes include the river and some activities connected with it. This riverside educational trail is distinct from the named ridge trail, which runs from Bílý Kříž via Prašivá.

Cycling Through Moravka

An official cycling route also passes through Moravka. Route 6113 runs through Ostravice, Ĺ ance, Visalaje, MorĂĄvka, RaĹĄkovice and VyĹĄnĂ Lhoty. This provides a designated cycling option in addition to the network of marked hiking trails; check the conditions for the route before setting off.

Memorial Sites, History and Architecture

The World War II memorial sites commemorate different aspects of the past. A plaque at the Partyzán restaurant commemorates the war tribunal of 14 December 1944 and is located at the authentic site of the trial. The “Wolfram” educational trail has nine stops about the dramatic circumstances of the operation and the individual members of the Wolfram parachute group, which was dropped into the Morávka valley in September 1944. While the plaque commemorates a specific event, the educational trail covers the operation and the group’s members.

The “Noční přechod” partisan movement memorial, popularly known as “Tři hrbatí,” is located by the Lipové bus stop. It has been a national cultural monument since 1978.

The history of the Moravka meteorite is also connected with a bright superbolide observed on 6 May 2000. Three fragments of it are now held in the collections of the National Museum in Prague.

Another chapter in the area’s cultural heritage is the timber-built hay barn “Roubený seník,” which was designated a cultural monument in 1958. Its exterior is accessible year-round. Unlike the memorial sites, the focus here is the historic building itself.
