At the foothills of the Hrubý Jeseník mountains, Světlá Hora lies at an elevation of 595 metres above sea level. The boundaries of the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area run through the municipality.

Church and History

The Church of Saint Barbara and Saint Catherine was built in 1798 and is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It is an oriented, single-nave late Baroque masonry building with a semicircular apse and an attached sacristy. The term “single-nave” describes a church with one nave; the apse forms a semicircular end, while the sacristy is part of the architectural description as an annex. If you are interested in sacred architecture, the construction date, style and architectural layout offer specific points to look out for. The first written mention of Světlá Hora dates from 1267. More than five centuries separate this mention from the construction of the church—two distinct chapters in the municipality’s history, each with a clearly dated event.

An archaeological entry by the National Heritage Institute, updated on 16 July 2026, dates gold panning and mining in Suchá Rudná to the transition from the 1220s to the 1230s in the 13th century. The same entry notes that surface and underground remains of medieval gold extraction have been preserved in Suchá Rudná. Comparing this with the first written mention of Světlá Hora brings different historical dates and locations into focus: a written mention of the municipality and earlier mining activities in Suchá Rudná. For travellers interested in history, this offers a second perspective alongside the architectural history of the church.

Community Life, Farm and Downhill Skiing

Amateur theatre and traditional cultural events are part of community life in Světlá Hora. They complement the architectural perspective with cultural themes that are not limited to a single building. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check a specific date in advance.

Farma U Stromovouse welcomes visitors at Stará Voda 114 in Světlá Hora. Check access before travelling. The farm makes cheese and other dairy products from its animals’ milk; you should also check product availability before your visit. This makes an interest in food production a distinct focus alongside architecture and history.

Downhill skiing is available in the surrounding area of Světlá Hora. If you are planning this activity, check specific facilities and operating conditions separately.
