Oborná brings together local history, community recreation and trails in the Nízký Jeseník landscape. The village lies in this mountain region, with extensive forests stretching to the north and east. When planning your visit, you can combine local life, with its historical and community connections, and outdoor activities. When choosing your accommodation, consider whether culture, relaxation or outdoor activities will be the focus of your stay. Oborná cannot be reduced to a single activity: its church and place names provide historical points of interest, while Skalka and the trails reveal other sides of a stay here.
Local History and Landmarks
Oborná was first mentioned in 1405. Older names for the village also offer a glimpse into its recorded history: Spillenberg and Spillendorf originally meant “watchtower” and “watch post,” respectively. The Church of the Holy Trinity is Oborná’s dominant landmark. The year, historical names and church offer three different points of reference if you would like to discover Oborná not only through activities but also through its own history.
Skalka: Recreation, Sports and Events
The Skalka nature area provides active and passive recreation for all generations. For exercise, there is a floodlit multi-purpose sports court used for netball, badminton, volleyball and ball games. The area also includes a music stage and four shelters, as well as a ground-level trampoline, a Russian skittles game and a maze. Benches, tables, rubbish bins, a bicycle rack and an information board round out the facilities. Oborná regularly holds its Children’s Day event in the area. If you would like to use a particular facility, check its current status before your visit, as facilities may change.
Traditions in Community Life
Raising the village maypole is a long-standing tradition. Dožinky, the harvest festival, and a St Nicholas celebration featuring devil figures are also part of social life in Oborná. Together, these customs complement the historical perspective offered by the church and place names with different forms of community life.
Cycling and Hiking Trails
A local cycling route passes through Oborná; check its signage on site. A green-marked hiking trail runs through the southern part of the village, although markings and trail conditions may change. In the surrounding area, a green hiking trail leads via Bruntál to Uhlířský vrch, which is 672 m high. The path to the summit is lined with a centuries-old lime-tree avenue; a small church stands at the top, and the summit is surrounded by the protected area of the Uhlířský vrch Natural Monument. The hiking trail in the south runs through the village; Uhlířský vrch, by contrast, is a destination in the surrounding area. Check the route and access to the protected area on site if you are planning this trip.
