A 21.5-metre memorial tower, a retro museum in the former rectory and a natural swimming biotope give Úvalno several distinct attractions. If you are looking for an apartment in Úvalno, you can plan your stay around whether you are most interested in architectural and local history, seasonal swimming or a cycling route.

Hans Kudlich Observation Tower: Construction History and Remembrance

The Hans Kudlich Observation Tower stands on Strážiště near Úvalno and was built as a memorial to Hans Kudlich. At 21.5 metres tall, it is a notable landmark in the village. It was built to the design of architect Oskar von Felgel and opened on 21 September 1913. Its dedication, design and opening date make the tower a tangible way to explore local history and remembrance.

For group visits outside the stated opening hours, an appointment can be arranged at least one day in advance. If you would like to use this option, confirm the arrangement in good time before your visit.

Museum, Church and Preserved Mill Components

The former rectory has been converted into the Retro Museum. The rooms on display include a kitchen, a bathroom, a children’s room with toys from the 1950s and a formal living room. The rooms give the museum visit a domestic focus: rather than looking at individual objects alone, you encounter several different living spaces.

St Nicholas Church offers a different perspective on history. It is a brick-built, longitudinal, rectangular, single-nave Gothic church dating from the second half of the 14th century, and was remodelled in the Baroque style after 1762. The living spaces in the Retro Museum thus sit alongside a building whose appearance reflects several historical periods. Structural components and parts of the furnishings of a mill have also been preserved in the Rychta.

Wet Meadows, River and Swimming Biotope

Úvalenská louka consists of wet meadows with marshy or boggy characteristics. The Opava in Úvalno is a preserved natural watercourse with riverside vegetation and regional significance for ornithology and zoology. These landscape features add a distinct natural dimension to the historic buildings: the wet meadow and river offer a different focus from the museum and church.

Plovárna Na Výsluní is a natural swimming biotope on the site of the former outdoor swimming pool below the Hans Kudlich Observation Tower. The facility includes a swimming area, a non-swimmer area and a paddling pool. There is also a water slide, outdoor showers, changing cabins and visitor toilets. As it operates seasonally, it is advisable to check the latest information before planning a day of swimming.

Cycling Route and Accommodation in Úvalno

Cyclists also have a specific route to follow: from Úvalno railway station, the Via Czechia – Stezka Slezskem continues along a signposted cycling route. The “Úvalno–Rychta” section is also listed. The renovated former station building is located at the railway station and operates as an information centre with toilets and a café. The building dates from 1875 and is one of the region’s few half-timbered buildings.

The Hytlák carriage at the municipal railway station offers a distinctive type of accommodation. It has a stove, a small kitchen and a basic sanitary area. If you are considering this option for your stay, check availability in advance.
