Lomnice combines cross-country skiing trails with a rich local history: St. George’s Church, a museum devoted to farming and crafts, and old houses of the German Lowland type offer tangible points of reference for the village’s past. Two cross-country skiing routes differ in length and course. Architectural and commemorative sites are also a focus if you are interested in the village’s history. Lomnice lies in the Nízký Jeseník range below Mount Slunečná.

Cross-country skiing: two routes of different lengths

Cross-country skiing Route A leads into a wooded area at Kamenec, then follows a ridge along the forest edge to Hospůdka Prima. It is a circular route about 11 km long, with an elevation difference of 90 m. Route B starts at Penzion Lomnický šenk, crosses meadows around Kamec into the forest, and then follows a ridge to Nová Pláň. It is about 19 km long, with an elevation difference of 100 m. Route B is therefore about 8 km longer, while its elevation difference is only 10 m greater. The choice is between a shorter loop and a longer route with a different course.

St. George’s Church and its architectural history

St. George’s Church is a single-nave masonry building dating from the mid-14th century. The parish was first mentioned in writing in 1351; the surviving core of the church was built in 1603. The building underwent extensive alterations between 1603 and 1622. This makes it possible to distinguish between the medieval history of the parish and the building phase of the early 17th century.

Church services are held regularly. If you would like to plan your visit around a service, check the latest times in advance, as the service schedule may change.

Museum, houses and remembrance

The “Život na vsi” museum focuses on small agricultural machines and tools. The collection was later expanded to include tools and products made by various craftspeople who lived and worked in the village. In this way, it brings farming and crafts together through tangible objects. If you are planning a museum visit, check the latest visitor information in advance.

Lomnice has old houses of the German Lowland type that are significant for their heritage value and were relocated to the mountains. The contrast between their stated Lowland type and their mountain setting gives this architectural history its distinctive character. A memorial in the cemetery in Lomnice commemorates the victims of the prisoner-of-war camp from 1940 to 1945.

Landscape and cycling

The Údolí Bystřice Nature Park also extends into the cadastral area of Lomnice in the Rýmařovsko region. This brings together two different geographical references: Lomnice lies below Mount Slunečná, while the nature park covers a wider area and also includes the village’s cadastral area. The Lomnická lípa, too, is a single tree within the cadastral area of Lomnice u Rýmařova.

At “Park s cyklistickým hřištěm,” the track is intended for bicycles, including BMX and mountain bikes, as well as balance bikes. This complements the cross-country skiing routes with a clear focus on different types of bicycles.
