Prysk lies in a narrow valley of the Pryský potok, enclosed by the steep slopes of the surrounding mountains. The village is in the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area. This combination of a valley setting and protected landscape is a useful starting point for planning: there is a choice of trails of various lengths, cycling routes, and cultural attractions connected with the church and glassmaking. You can therefore shape your days around outdoor activities, history or the summer events series.
Trails by length and character
When choosing trails, it is worth first considering their route and length. The Meixnerova pohybová stezka is 2.5 kilometres long, starts at the municipal office and ends in the centre of HornĂ Prysk. Its features include wooden signposts by Petr JelĂnek, a wooden footbridge, climbing areas and information boards. The Meixnerova stezka, in turn, follows former glassmakers’ paths and is decorated with coloured glass shards and glass sand. An eight-kilometre hiking loop runs around Prysk. These offer a choice of a trail with a named start and end point, a route connected with the glassmaking tradition and a longer circular trail. To plan your day, you can first decide whether distance or a particular theme should be the deciding factor.
Cycling also offers different options: the area around Prysk has cycling routes for families with children as well as for cyclists looking for more challenging terrain. This distinction helps you tailor your ride to the level of challenge you want. If you are travelling with others, you can decide in advance whether cycling or hiking will be the main focus of your plans.
Church architecture and glassmaking tradition
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul (Kostel svatého Petra a Pavla) is an important monument in Prysk and a Baroque building. It was built between 1718 and 1721 on the site of an older church, based on designs by—or under the direction of—the master builder Petr Pavel Columbani. This allows the older church site to be distinguished from the later Baroque building phase. Traditional glassmaking also shapes the local character. Church architecture and the glassmaking tradition give Prysk two distinct cultural focal points: the history of a specific religious building and a craft that still characterises the village today.
Summer events series
The “Léto s Pryskem” events series takes place in Prysk every summer. If you would like to plan your stay around the cultural programme, check the specific event dates against your travel dates before booking. This way, you can make the series a fixed point in your schedule and plan other activities around it.
Landscape and distinctive places
The Riedelova jeskyně is an extensive, artificially created underground space. Its entrance is on the southeastern slope of Břidličný vrch, directly above the northern edge of Dolnà Prysk. There is also a quarry near Prysk, now home to the Skalnà divadlo rock theatre. The location of the Riedelova jeskyně and the quarry with its rock theatre add further distinctive local landmarks to the area.
Accommodation and trip planning
When planning your accommodation, you can first decide what you would like to focus on: trails, cycling, church architecture or the summer programme. If “Léto s Pryskem” is an important reason for your trip, plan your travel dates around the series’ specific dates first. Search specifically for holiday apartments in Prysk and choose activities that suit your own itinerary.
