Noviny Pod Ralskem lies between the hills of Lipka and Ralsko, on both banks of the Ploučnice. At the eastern edge of the village, the underground outlet of Průrva Ploučnice can be reached from the bridge over the Ploučnice. The village offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay—from the river and hiking trails to the church, historic fortifications and winter cross-country skiing options.

Trails and destinations in the landscape

A red-marked hiking trail runs through Noviny Pod Ralskem, branches off to Průrva Ploučnice and connects Česká Lípa with Liberec. It therefore serves two distinct purposes: a branch to a named destination and a link between the two cities. A yellow-marked shortcut makes it possible to circle Ralsko. Route 241 runs through the village for cyclists. When planning your routes, you can therefore consider a riverside destination, a circuit and a cycling route as distinct options.

The church and the history of fortifications

The Church of the Holy Trinity (Nejsvětější Trojice) continues to host church services and cultural events. Culture and history here span different periods: the church’s ongoing use and a historic chapter associated with the fortifications.

In the territory of Noviny Pod Ralskem, in the forests of Ralsko, nineteen light fortification structures of the vzor 37 type were built between July and September 1938. While hiking in Ralsko, you may come across unfinished fortification bunkers, excavations and foundation sleeves. Historical interest thus ranges from a clearly defined construction period to possible discoveries along the trails.

Natural features in the village

At the western edge of the village, a state-protected small-leaved lime tree grows in front of the “U zlaté lípy” restaurant. Skalka is a wooded islet with sandstone rocks. These natural features are quite distinct: one is a protected tree, the other a wooded rocky outcrop.

Cross-country skiing by route type and length

In winter, three cross-country skiing options differ in route type and length. The first loop is groomed on the football pitch, is about 400 m long and is suitable for parents with children. The second runs around Skalka; its starting point is at the football pitch, and the route is about 4.3 km long. The distances show the difference in scale: about 400 m for the first loop and about 4.3 km for the second. The football pitch serves as a reference point for both: as the grooming location for the first and the starting point for the second.

A third cross-country skiing route leads from Motorest Zlatá lípa via Srní potok to Mimoň. Unlike the two loops, it runs between named start and end points, with an intermediate point along the way. The usability of all three seasonal options depends on snow conditions and whether the tracks have been groomed. The grass football pitch is open to the public; check whether it is currently available for use before visiting.
