Brniště offers several distinct themes for a stay: glass art, nature trails around ponds and streams, forest knowledge and local history. The trails also vary considerably in length. You can therefore first consider whether art and views, nature and aquatic life, or a particular distance range should take priority on your trip.

Nature Trails with Distinct Themes

The Skleněná stezka features works by Bořek Šípek and Jiří Pačinek, as well as works by Czech and German children. The trail leads to the Schröter Chapel on the hill above the village, where it offers beautiful views of the landscape. Glass art and scenery give this route a different character from the nature trails focused on forests, water and nature. When accessing the surrounding area, please follow the local notices.

The Stezka Hastrmanů introduces visitors to local nature and life around ponds and streams. Nine themed stations with original play features, a water playground and opportunities to observe waterbirds bring its varied subjects to life. The route is about six kilometres long and can also be walked with a pushchair. As ground conditions can vary seasonally, take this into account when planning your visit.

The Stezka živým lesem, also known as Lesopark Brniště, is a 0.6-kilometre nature trail near Brniště railway station. It opened in July 2020 and has six educational and playful stations about life in the forest and forest animals. The forest is the focus here, while the Stezka Hastrmanů explores nature and life around ponds and streams.

The Stezka Sochy ve skalách is 1.2 kilometres long. It includes a rest area next to a chapel rediscovered in 1863. Compared with the 0.6 kilometres of Lesopark and the approximately six kilometres of the Stezka Hastrmanů, it offers another distinct option for factoring trail length into your choice.

Church, Local History and Vratislav Pond

The Church of Saint Nicholas also provides a historical point of interest. Its first official mention dates to 1384, though it probably already existed in 1359. The church, with its former fortified site, has an old cemetery with preserved gravestones, an enclosing wall with a gate, and a mortuary. The dates distinguish the church’s first official mention from its earlier, probable existence.

At centrally located Vratislav Pond stands the sandstone sculpture of the water sprite “Vráťa I. a Jediný.” The pond is also home to a variety of aquatic plants, animals and insects. So, alongside the themed trails, Brniště has a named place where a sculpture and the pond’s aquatic life come together.

When choosing accommodation, your interests may help you decide: would you like to explore the nature trails above all, are you interested in local history, or would you like to consider both? The trails differ in both theme and length; the historical details and the pond add further specific points of interest to help you plan your stay.
