The Městské muzeum is housed in a reconstructed historic building that originally served as a hospital. Its permanent exhibition is devoted to the history and nature of Mimoň and its surroundings. The focus therefore extends beyond the history of the town to include the surrounding landscape.
Museums and local history
At the Městské muzeum, a mortuary chamber has been preserved in its original condition. The museum grounds also feature a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The museum’s setting therefore includes not only the exhibition themes but also a preserved interior and a religious work of art.
The Mimoňské Retromuzeum focuses on something different: it displays old prams and historic children’s items such as dolls, swaddling cloths, rattles, toys, baby clothes, and cradles. The collection thus includes a variety of objects from children’s lives in the past. The museum also preserves memories of former companies from Mimoň, including TON, Severka, Rukavičářské závody, and OPMP. Children’s everyday lives and local business history therefore offer two distinct ways of exploring the past. The collection and visiting arrangements may change; check in advance if you are specifically planning to visit the Retromuzeum.
Park, church, and traditional climbs
Zámecký park is located in the center of Mimoň and is a protected heritage site. It complements the museum’s themes with a protected park in the town center. The Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul has an observation tower. Climbing the tower at Christmas and Easter is a popular local tradition. If you want to plan your trip around one of these climbs, check the dates for the relevant year.
Cycling route and paddling route
The CV16 Mimoň–Zákupy–Mimoň cycling route is offered in 39, 29, and 20-kilometer variations. The three distances give you a clear choice based on your preferred route length; check current route conditions before setting out, as they may change.
On the Ploučnice paddling route, a regulated riverbed with several weirs begins just before Mimoň. Here, too, planning depends on conditions: water levels and navigability can vary, so it is advisable to check the latest conditions before setting out. The cycling route can be compared by its listed distance options; on the paddling route, changing river conditions require particular attention.
A medieval-themed trail
A visitor program dated 2026 describes the Stezka po stopách středověku as an approximately three-kilometer experience trail with 13 stops. The route described in the program runs from the Městské muzeum information board along the Ploučnice to the Mimoň leisure center. As the program is time-specific, check before your trip whether the trail will be available during your visit.
