Teschwitz lies on the right bank of the Ohře. Preserved half-timbered houses, a closed farmstead and individual monuments in the surrounding landscape give the village several distinct aspects. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay focused on the river and architectural history, you can assess Teschwitz according to whether architecture, walking routes or individual cultural heritage sites match your interests. Local points of interest range from a suspension bridge across the river to a medieval stone cross in a hollow.

The Ohře, a walking trail and a suspension bridge

A green-marked walking trail runs through Teschwitz. A suspension bridge connects the village across the Ohře to Královské Poříčí and is intended for pedestrians and cyclists. The trail and bridge address different planning needs: the walking trail runs through the village, while the bridge provides a connection across the river to Královské Poříčí. If you are planning to explore on foot, you can include the marked trail; for a cycling trip, the bridge is a useful river crossing in its own right.

Half-timbered houses and architectural history

Several half-timbered houses have been preserved in Teschwitz. The enclosed farmstead at No. 9 dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a typical four-sided courtyard, or a Franconian house with a four-sided layout. The term draws attention to the form of the farmstead as a whole: the complex is enclosed and arranged on four sides. The buildings of the so-called Těšovice manor house are valuable examples of vernacular half-timbered architecture from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. These dates place the buildings around the transition to the 19th century; in the case of No. 9, the defining feature is its enclosed, four-sided layout.

The stone cross and landscape monuments

The medieval stone cross stands in a hollow beside the former field road to Staré Sedlo, near the former hamlet of Na Kopci and about 250 metres south of the summit of Těšovický vrch. It is approximately one metre high, reinforced by four irregular ribs and bears a small engraved cross in the centre. Both its location in the landscape and the design of the stone are relevant to understanding it. With its medieval origins, the cross marks an earlier period than the half-timbered architecture of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

A boundary stone belonging to the Nostitz estate stands near the small waterfall known as the Těšovice Waterfall. An anchor, part of the Nostitz coat of arms, is engraved on the stone. Its proximity to the waterfall thus links a landscape feature with a specific symbol of the estate.

Assessing Teschwitz as a place to stay

This offers a practical guide when choosing a holiday apartment: if you would like to take architectural history and the river landscape into account when choosing a destination, the farmstead, monuments and routes in Teschwitz may be relevant. Consider whether your stay will be shaped more by architecture, individual cultural sites or routes on foot and by bike. This will help you match your choice of destination to your own travel interests.
