Graslitz (Kraslice) lies in the western Ore Mountains, and the Svatava flows through the town. Cultural and historical attractions, marked hiking trails, a cycling route and winter sports offer different ways to shape your stay. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether you want to focus mainly on the history of the mining town, explore on foot or by bike, or include winter sports.

Mining Town History in the Western Ore Mountains

The history of Kraslice begins with the founding of Neuhaus watch castle in the 13th century, on an important trade route from Loket to Germany. In 1541, Kraslice was granted the prestigious status of a free mining town and flourished at that time, mainly thanks to the mining of copper, lead and tin. The town’s history is thus linked to two specific themes: mining and Kraslice’s development into a free mining town.

Castle Ruins, Church and Historic Buildings

On Zámecký vrch, Hradiště preserves the remains of a 13th-century castle. These include sections of wall, a round bastion and a moat, as well as a three-metre-deep hollow carved into the rock. The different structural elements give the site a clearly defined archaeological focus.

In the centre of Kraslice, the Neo-Romanesque Děkanský kostel Božího těla church has stood since 1896, built on the site of an older medieval church. Alongside the castle ruins, it offers sacred architecture with its own building history. The former municipal slaughterhouse complex in Kraslice features unique architecture and technical equipment. If you plan to visit, check access separately.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Route

There are four marked hiking trails in the Kraslice area, identified by blue, red, yellow and green markings. The blue trail starts at the signpost in Kraslice and leads via Tisovské rozcestí to Olověný vrch. The red-marked trail passes through Kraslice and continues to Rájecké údolí and in the direction of the former village of Rolava. The named intermediate and destination points help distinguish the two routes by their respective courses.

For a cycling trip, Route 2178 runs from Sokolov through Kraslice to the border near Klingenthal. Before setting out, check both the route number and the current route. This lets you plan around the connection described without assuming a travel time on foot or by bike.

Seasonal Visits and Winter Sports

In winter, winter sports enthusiasts can use ski routes along the ridges on the Czech-German border, as well as several downhill runs with lifts. If you are planning a visit for a specific date, check current operating conditions in advance.

The Kraslice Railway Museum in Kraslice is an attraction that is open only on Saturdays during the season. Plan your visit accordingly and check before travelling whether access is possible on your chosen date.

Planning Your Stay
