Rasošky offers several different ways to explore its cultural history during a stay: the development of the settlement, memorial sites and named routes.

From a forest name to the founding of the village

The forest name “Rossošky” appears as early as 1546 in church documents; Rasošky began to take shape at the site of this forest in 1781. The dates refer to different stages: 1546 concerns the name of the forest, while 1781 marks the beginning of the village’s formation. The origins of the settlement are also linked to the construction of the Josefov fortress, then called Ples. The village was founded around a rectangular village green. Thus, an early landscape name, the construction of the fortress and the layout around the village green complement one another: the first reference predates the village’s formation, while the green describes the spatial layout of its founding.

Military cemetery and the Pyramida monument

The old military cemetery, dating from 1820–1840, is an immovable cultural monument; its protection is subject to official heritage protection rules. The Pyramida monument is located in the military cemetery in Rasošky. It commemorates the fallen members of the 21st Infantry Regiment in the wars of 1848–1849 and 1866. The dates have different roles here: 1820–1840 refers to the period of the cemetery, while 1848–1849 and 1866 are the wars to which Pyramida is dedicated. The Pevnostní Cemetery is also located north of Rasošky. For thematic orientation, it is worth distinguishing this cemetery to the north from the military cemetery with Pyramida.

The 1866 educational trail and cycling route 4266

The 1866 educational trail passes through Rasošky and connects the village with Josefov, among other places. Cycling route 4266 runs from Jaroměř to Rasošky and continues from there to Smržov. These are two different connections for planning your trip: Josefov is named as a connected place on the educational trail, while the cycling route follows the sequence Jaroměř, Rasošky and Smržov. If you want to focus on one of these routes, you can plan around its particular connection rather than treating both as one combined route.

Masopust as an annual event

The Masopust parade is a tradition that is gaining importance in Rasošky each year. Alongside the village’s history and memorial sites, a recurring event is therefore one of the village’s cultural themes. If you want to travel for the parade, check the specific event dates before you arrive. This will let you plan around the actual date of the event.

Find a holiday apartment based on what you want to focus on

When looking for a holiday apartment in Rasošky, you can first decide what you want your stay to focus on: the history of the settlement, the memorial sites, the 1866 educational trail, cycling route 4266 or the Masopust parade. The routes offer different connections to places, while the memorial sites each highlight their own historical themes. If you are travelling for the parade, include its event date in your plans.
