Hynčice lies in the western part of the Broumovský výběžek, on the Stěnava, alongside the railway line and the road from Meziměstí to Broumov. Hynčice station is on railway line 027 from Starkoč to Broumov; there is a public parking garage near the station. Check the timetable before travelling by train and plan your journey around your stay. The river, railway and road provide clear reference points for finding your way around the village.
Geology on the edge of the village and by the Stěnava
Hynčický lom is a former quarry for building and crushed stone on the eastern edge of the village, about 200 metres northeast of the railway bridge over the Stěnava. Its walls are more than 20 metres high, with a continuous exposure of ignimbrites extending across their full height. Here you can learn about the area’s distinctive volcanic rock. The height and continuous exposure make the quarry a striking geological destination in Hynčice.
On the right bank of the Stěnava lies the Permská stěna, a rock exposure more than 200 metres long and up to 20 metres high. It reveals volcaniclastic rocks and reddish-brown, fine-grained sediments of the upper Olivětín Beds. The Permská stěna is considered a geotourism site and is most easily reached via the bridge over the Stěnava in the village centre. The two geological sites offer different points of interest: at Hynčický lom, the continuous ignimbrite exposure shapes the view, while the Permská stěna highlights other rocks and sediments.
On foot: Stations of the Cross and forest paths
The 19th-century Stations of the Cross run between Hynčice and Ruprechtice. They begin at a stone cross in Hynčice and end at the church in Ruprechtice; their restoration was reported in November 2025. The short walk along the Stations of the Cross passes beneath a railway viaduct, through a small deciduous wood and alongside a meadow on an old path, ending at the church. The route thus combines a clear destination with a varied succession of landscape features.
There are also walking paths around Hynčice through deep forests, which can lead as far as the ridges of the Javoří Mountains. This sets them apart from the short walk along the Stations of the Cross: that walk ends at the church in Ruprechtice, while the forest paths offer the option of continuing towards the mountain ridges. When planning your day, you can therefore choose between a route with a defined sequence of sights and walking paths that may continue into the higher terrain.
Cycling in the Javoří Mountains
Cycle route 4002 starts in Hynčice and runs through the Javoří Mountains, mostly along quiet forest paths on the mountain slopes. The route “From the Javoří Mountains to Machov” is classified as moderate, with some difficult sections. The rating and the note about more demanding stretches go together: “moderate” does not mean every section is equally easy. So when comparing cycling routes, consider this variation as well as the route itself.
Geology, a short walk along the Stations of the Cross, forest paths and cycling offer different ways to explore Hynčice. When planning, consider which of these matters most to you during your stay; this will help you choose a location that suits your actual interests.
