The Ostaš Route continues via Nebíčko and Bukovice to Ostaš; two other named routes also pass through Bukovice. Their lengths and described destinations can help you decide whether you are looking for a route towards Ostaš or Hvězda, or views of Ostaš and the Broumovské stěny. Local history and a seasonal winter option are also among the things that may shape your plans.

Hiking routes through Bukovice

The Hvězda Route is 14.4 kilometres long, passes through Bukovice and then continues towards Hvězda. The 12.7-kilometre Ostaš Route goes via Nebíčko and Bukovice to Ostaš. At 16.4 kilometres, the Hony Route is the longest of the three; it passes through Bukovice and offers views of Ostaš and the Broumovské stěny. The routes therefore differ not only in length but also in their stated destinations and views.

The stated route lengths can help you compare how far you will be walking. Check trail conditions before your hike, as they may vary.

Rock formations and a circular trail at Ostaš

Ostaš has two rock towns with numerous and varied rock formations. The circular trail crosses the summit plateau and follows its rocky edge; several developed viewpoints lie along the route. This route has a different focus from the trails through Bukovice: it crosses the summit plateau and follows the rocky edge, while the Hvězda Route, the Ostaš Route and the Hony Route pass through the village. When choosing between the trails, you can therefore take into account both the distance and the type of route described.

Part of Zone II of the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area lies below Mount Ostaš, within the municipality of Bukovice. If your activities take you into this landscape, include the applicable protection rules in your plans. Climbing is permitted in the Ostaš Nature Reserve in the designated areas, subject to Broumovsko’s protection rules; seasonal conditions also apply.

Local history and a dated monument

Bukovice was founded around 1220 by Benedictines from Police. They established a manor farm there, which was still mentioned in 1405. These two details mark different points in time: the village’s founding is dated to around 1220, while the manor farm is documented as late as 1405. The local history thus connects an early founding date with a later historical reference.

A column featuring an Immaculata dating from 1747 stands on a road in Bukovice. This monument is a distinct, dated landmark in the village’s history, complementing the account of its founding with a structure from the 18th century. Together with the hiking trails, this gives you a choice of routes, landscape features and cultural details in the village.

Seasonal winter option

The Nebíčko ski area lies between Police nad Metují and Bukovice, towards Broumov. It is a seasonal facility; check current operating conditions before your trip. Alongside the hiking trails and the landscape around Ostaš, it offers another seasonal focus for planning your trip.
