At Safari Park Dvůr Králové, the Africké safari route passes among free-roaming hoofed animals and birds. Visitors interested not only in the animals but also in what makes them special can hear expert talks at selected enclosures during the day. Talk times may vary. This lets you combine animal watching with learning about the species in question.
Trails, water and activities
For a walk along a clearly marked route, consider the Údolím Hartského potoka nature trail: Its circular route starts at the gate of the municipal hospital and is just under two kilometres long. Information boards and several play features line the route, along with a jumping pit and seating by a fire pit. If you are looking for something different, the 1.7-kilometre Městský památkový okruh historic circuit takes in places of historical significance, including the Davidova hvězda memorial and surviving sections of the town fortifications in Valová ulička.
Both trails are similarly short but focus on different themes: the nature trail features information and stops along the way, while the historic circuit draws attention to the townscape and its past. Their lengths can also help you choose a short route to fit into your day. The area also has an extensive network of cycle routes of varying difficulty.
For a different kind of outing on the water, a description of Jedu Labe dated 2025 mentions a ten-kilometre, three-hour rafting and canoe trip from Dvůr Králové nad Labem to Kuks, suitable for beginners. Check the operating arrangements before your trip. Tyršovo koupaliště has a separate paddling pool, a leisure pool and a swimming pool; check seasonal opening arrangements before visiting.
Churches, town history and collections
Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele stands on the site of an earlier Romanesque church. It acquired its present appearance in the 1890s. Another testament to the history of sacred music can be found in Kostel sv. Anny, which houses an organ made in 1829 by Johann Antonín Barth from Dolní Olešnice. It is considered the last surviving organ by this builder that is still suitable for concert performances.
The history of the town’s Jewish residents is also part of its historical context. The synagogue was demolished in 1966; the town’s Jewish residents were murdered by the Nazis. Separately, the Městský památkový okruh takes visitors to the aforementioned sites and historical features of the town.
The Galerie minerálů focuses on natural history: Its collection includes more than 6,000 minerals and gemstones from the Czech Republic and around the world. Its fossil exhibits include complete skeletons of a mosasaur and a plesiosaur. The collection thus brings together minerals and gemstones alongside impressive evidence of prehistoric life.
Green spaces, bicycles and herbs
In Žireč, the Expozice historie cyklistiky displays historic bicycles from the First Republic era, as well as wartime and racing bicycles. Visitors can try a penny-farthing trainer or borrow a rickshaw for a ride through the park. Check locally whether these activities are available; seasonal opening information may also change.
The park at Areál sv. Josefa in Žireč is open to everyone year-round and invites visitors to take a stroll. Among coniferous and deciduous trees from Asia, North America and South America, the grounds offer a botanical counterpoint to the exhibitions. Via botanica connects eleven botanically remarkable sites. Mint, sage and goldenrod, along with hundreds of other herbs, grow in the Bylinkárium.
Beer culture by appointment
Visitors interested in how regional drinks are made can arrange a tour of Královédvorský pivovar Tambor. The tour explains the entire beer-brewing process. Visits are by prior arrangement, so contact the brewery before you go.
