Petříkovice lies in a valley among the hills of the Jestřebí Mountains, below the steep slopes of Janský vrch. You can choose from several options when planning your visit: a circular trail about six kilometres long, the history of the fortification line, a 19th-century chapel or seasonal winter sports. These options differ in route and focus; they do not automatically form a single route.

Circular Trail and Landscape

The Chvaleč–Petříkovice educational trail is a circular route about six kilometres long. It leads from Petříkovice past several points of interest and back to Petříkovice. Several stops have information boards. The trail starts at the car park by the swimming pool. Its circular route, approximate length and information boards give the tour a clear focus of its own.

Janský vrch offers another point of reference: the Czech-Polish border runs over the mountain, accompanied there by an educational trail. Janský vrch rises 697 metres above the spring. The educational trail, border and landscape are different aspects that make the area interesting to explore on foot.

Fortifications and Local History

A historic fortification line dating from 1937 to 1938 runs through Petříkovice. Several of its structures are being gradually renovated as open-air museums; work may continue to progress. Bunker T-S 52b “Na skále” is the easternmost structure in the Petříkovice subsection. It is badly damaged; its condition, unchanged since the end of the war, illustrates the effect of explosives on a massive fortification structure.

At infantry bunker T-S 54 “Nad dráhou” in the Petříkovice defensive area, the structure itself had been completed, while work on the electrical installation had begun. The two bunkers thus represent different aspects of the fortifications: the preserved state of construction in one case and the visible effects of damage in the other.

The Chapel of the Holy Family is also one of the sights. It dates from 1847 and was restored between 1990 and 2004. A monument commemorates František Opočenský: it was ceremonially unveiled on 28 September 1946 and stands on the left side of the road towards Radvanice. Petříkovice was first mentioned in writing in 1012. These dates place the chapel, monument and older local history in a chronological context without conflating their distinct historical themes.

Winter Sports, Cycle Route and Swimming Pool

The Petříkovice ski resort offers well-groomed downhill slopes and family-friendly skiing. A ski school and a small lift for children and complete beginners operate there every day. Operations may vary by season, so check current conditions before planning your visit. This offering has a different focus from the circular trail and fortification sites.

For cyclists, Cycle Route 1 crosses the Okrzeszyn border crossing and descends to the swimming pool in Petříkovice, a part of the municipality of Chvaleč. The Okrzeszyn–Petříkovice border crossing is intended for pedestrians and cyclists and is open all day. Before travelling, check the crossing’s operating conditions as well as local route and crossing conditions.

The swimming pool grounds are in the central part of the village. They have a firefighting water reservoir suitable for swimming, toilets, an outdoor shower, refreshments and a car park. Swimming is at your own risk and is seasonal. The grounds can therefore also serve as a practical landmark for the start of the educational trail or as the destination of the cycle route, while swimming and winter sports are subject to their own seasonal conditions.
