Orlické Záhoří lies in the valley of the Divoká Orlice on the Czech-Polish border, between the ridges of the Orlické Mountains and the Bystrzyckie Mountains. There is a road border crossing to Poland in Orlické Záhoří, which pedestrians, cyclists, passenger cars and buses can use. As border crossing regulations may change, check them before travelling.

Trails between nature paths and natural landscapes

The 15 km S Kačenkou po stopách sklářů educational trail runs between Deštné v Orlických horách and Orlické Záhoří. The route can be travelled by car, bicycle or on foot. Seven information boards cover the history of glassworks and glassmaking in the Orlické Mountains. In this way, the educational trail combines different modes of transport with a specific cultural and historical theme.

A shorter hiking option, the 3 km Bedřichovka walking trail, is a different proposition; it is rated easy. The longer section of this educational trail runs from the Bedřichovka Nature Reserve through the Trčkovská louka Nature Reserve to the Trčkov National Nature Reserve. Despite its easy rating, trail conditions may vary.

Another walking option is the approximately 7 km Horské louky Zaorlicka excursion. It leads beyond the ridge of the Orlické Mountains into the area known as Zaorlicko, directly to the Polish state border and along the right bank of the Divoká Orlice. The route is therefore clearly defined by its approximate length and course. Trail conditions and parking options may change; check both in advance. Trail conditions and signage on S Kačenkou may also change.

Meadow landscapes and winter

The Ptačí oblast Orlické Záhoří is a 904-hectare Natura 2000 protected area consisting mainly of meadows and pastures. It protects the corncrake (Crex crex) and wet and spring-fed meadows as breeding habitats. The conservation focus thus encompasses both a bird species and the landscape that serves as its breeding ground.

For cross-country skiing, there is a 4.6 km illuminated trail in Jadrná, operated by Ski aréna Orlické Záhoří. Winter operations depend on snow and grooming conditions; check the current situation if you plan to use the trail.

Glassmaking history and cultural attractions

The late Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist in Orlické Záhoří was built between 1754 and 1763. It houses a permanent exhibition on the history of glassmaking. The traditional international woodworking competition Kunštátský drvoštěp is also part of the area's cultural life. Its dates vary from year to year; if you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates for the relevant year.

Near Orlické Záhoří, the Kunštátská Chapel stands on the ridge of the Orlické Mountains at an altitude of 1,035 m. It was rebuilt in 1868–1869 on the site of an earlier chapel. The masonry building is roughly circular and has a shingle-covered conical roof.

A historic classroom

The Museum výuky minulého století in Orlické Záhoří contains a restored classroom from the First Czechoslovak Republic. Children can sit at old school desks and look at historical teaching aids there. The church and museum have different focuses: one on the history of glassmaking, the other on a classroom from an earlier era. If you would like to visit either attraction, check access arrangements in advance.
