In Dobré, churches, calvary ensembles and folk architecture reveal different facets of the area. Details range from the history of a wooden church to distinctive locations along roads, at the edge of the forest and beneath trees. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus mainly on sacred buildings, local architecture or the Pod Strání outdoor swimming pool.

Church and orientation around the village square

The Church of St Peter and Paul complex is located on Dobré’s central village square. Its position can be identified more precisely by the neighbouring buildings and open spaces: the rectory is to the north, the cemetery to the west and a park-like open space to the east. These cardinal directions give the square a clear spatial layout without conflating its individual areas.

Today’s church stands on the site of a wooden church dating from the early 14th century. The date therefore refers to the predecessor building, not to the present-day structure. Another specific feature is the tower, which has five bells. Together, this information offers two different perspectives: the long history of the church site and a detail of the present-day building.

Calvaries and a Marian chapel

In Hlinné, a calvary ensemble dating from 1799 stands in an enclosed green space beside the road from Hlinné to Svinná. The date, enclosure and location in a landscaped green space all contribute to the overall picture.

A different religious feature can be found north of the road from Chmeliště to Stará Náves: beneath the trees stands a niche chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, with a statue of the Virgin Mary. The chapel differs from the freestanding ensemble in Hlinné both in its form as a niche chapel and in the trees at its location.

Another calvary ensemble is located in Šediviny. It stands at the edge of the forest within a wire fence, beside the path to house number 16. Unlike the enclosed green space beside a road in Hlinné, here the defining features are the forest-edge location and the wire fence. These two locations offer distinct, concrete features that help you tell the sacred ensembles apart.

Folk architecture and landscape

Buildings classified as valuable examples of folk architecture contribute to Dobré’s built character. Most are log or half-timbered houses, or farmsteads that have largely retained their original character. If you are interested in rural building styles, you can explore these houses and farmsteads as a focus in their own right, alongside the religious buildings. The term “folk architecture” here covers different building types; it does not mean that every building has the same design.

The Pod Strání outdoor swimming pool offers a different focus. It is located in a picturesque valley beside a foothill stream and has a swimming pool. As it is a seasonal facility, check whether it is scheduled to be open on your travel dates before visiting. This lets you consider the outdoor pool as a possible addition to exploring the local building heritage without assuming it will be available on a particular date.

Which themes suit your trip?

For a culturally focused stay, you can use the church on the village square, the ensembles in Hlinné and Šediviny, the Marian chapel and the folk architecture as a guide. The places mentioned differ in their features and relationships to roads, paths, green spaces and the forest edge. No set visiting order is implied; choose your focus based on the building styles and locations that interest you most. If you also want to make time for the outdoor swimming pool, take its seasonal operation into account when choosing your dates.
