The valley setting, viewpoints and architectural history give Pěčín a range of starting points for planning a trip. Most of Pěčín’s houses lie in the valley of the Pěčínský potok; on the valley slopes, buildings become more scattered, with individual properties set apart. The settlement pattern thus shifts between houses in the valley and isolated buildings on the slopes. In the area around Pěčín, a zone of the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area includes contiguous fields and orchards. These extend the view from the village itself to the surrounding landscape.

Valley Views and Village Scenes

The road near house no. 15 offers a panorama of the deep, wooded valley of the stream and the Zdobnice. By contrast, Okresní skála offers a view of the central part of Pěčín, including the school and church. The viewpoints therefore differ in what they show, not just in their names: one offers a valley panorama, the other a view of the central settlement. When planning your trip, you can choose between a landscape view and a village scene.

Church and Historic Sites

The church “kostel Narození sv. Jana Křtitele” was built in 1727–1729 by Jan Kumper, a master builder from Hradec Králové. The construction dates and the named builder provide specific historical details about the church. The period of construction and the builder’s origins complement each other: they place the building in time and identify its builder.

The aligned, single-nave, plastered masonry building has a rectangular nave and a presbytery with a three-sided end. A four-story square tower stands in front of the west façade. “Single-nave” describes the number of church naves; the nave and presbytery refer to different parts of the building. The rectangular main section and the square tower have two different ground plans, while the four stories further characterize the tower.

The ruins of Pěčín Castle are classified as a significant archaeological site. The two historical points of interest are therefore described differently: for the church, the focus is on its construction period, builder and architecture; for the castle, it is the archaeological significance of the ruins. This makes it possible to distinguish architectural history from archaeological heritage as separate aspects of the village’s history.

Cycling Route and Planning

The Litice–Orlické Záhoří cycling route is 38.5 km long and classified as challenging. The distance and rating answer different planning questions: the number of kilometers indicates the route’s length, while the rating adds information about its difficulty. Take both into account and check route conditions before setting off, as the surface and access may change. Marked cycling route 4075 from Litice to Orlické Záhoří passes through the junction designated Pěčín, rozc. This is a specific location along the route, while its length and rating characterize the route as a whole.
