One route explicitly starts in Očelice, while two others pass through the village. Their approximate total lengths differ considerably. There is also a 19th-century chapel, a Calvary group, and the story of a fortress whose history is only presumed. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether cycling routes, transport links, or historical traces of the village will be the focus of your trip.

Cycling routes of different lengths

Marked cycling route No. 222 runs via Dobruška, Opočno, Očelice, Ledce, Třebechovice pod Orebem, Krňovice, and Běleč nad Orlicí to Hradec Králové. The entire route is approximately 30 kilometres long. In the order described, Očelice lies between Opočno and Ledce.

Marked cycling route No. 4350 starts in Očelice and runs via Přepychy, Záhornice, Zádolí, Trnov, and Podbřezí to Lhota Netřeba. The route is approximately 14 kilometres long. Of the three routes described, it is therefore the shortest and the only one with a starting point explicitly named as Očelice.

Marked cycling route No. 4167 runs from Vysoký Újezd via Městec nad Dědinou, Očelice, Bolehošť, Křivice, and Lično to Třebešov. Its approximate total length is 22 kilometres.

For an initial comparison, consider the route length and where the village lies within each route description: No. 4350 starts in Očelice and is about 14 kilometres long; No. 4167 passes through the village over approximately 22 kilometres. Cycling route No. 222 covers approximately 30 kilometres and lists Očelice between Opočno and Ledce. This makes it possible to choose between a shorter route starting in Očelice and two longer routes that pass through the village. Route conditions may change; check them before setting off.

Transport routes in the municipality

The single-track, non-electrified railway line No. 026 runs through the municipality of Očelice. It runs from Týniště nad Orlicí via Opočno, Václavice, and Teplice nad Metují to Broumov and is classified as a nationwide railway line. For a specific journey, check the timetables for your travel date.

As part of the IREDO regional transport network, there are two bus stops in the municipality: Očelice and Očelice, Městec nad Dědinou. Their names distinguish the two stops; which one is relevant to your plans depends on your connection. If bus travel is part of your journey, check the timetables for your travel date here too.

Chapel, Calvary, and fortress

The Chapel of St. Peter and Paul was built in 1872 at the expense of local residents. A historical description also mentions an Ave Maria bell. The Calvary group in front of the chapel dates from 1873. The chapel and the group are therefore dated to two consecutive years and belong to the second half of the 19th century.

A considerably older historical layer concerns Očelice Fortress. It presumably fell during the Hussite campaign against the monastery in 1420. Its destruction remains a supposition. The dated evidence from the 19th century thus sits alongside an earlier history of the village that should be treated with caution.
