On the banks of the Javorka, Nevratice brings together a specific local history and distinctive features: monuments in the village square, a former school with a bust of Jan Ámos Komenský, and a route to Chomutice designed for pedestrians and cyclists. This offers two main points to consider when planning your stay: historic details in the village landscape and activity along a named route. You can weigh up which interests you more by considering the features below.

Local history in buildings and dates

The oldest written mention of Nevratice dates from 1398. The manor of Mikuláš z Úlibic is also documented from this period.

Another historical layer is represented by the former school in Nevratice. The idea for its construction dates to 1908, and the building was completed in 1911. The school is associated with a bust of Jan Ámos Komenský. The two dates mark different stages: 1908 for the idea to build it, and 1911 for its completion. If you are interested in the development of local architecture, you will find a building from a later period here alongside the older monuments.

The village landscape also includes preserved log houses. They are examples of folk architecture; the term “log house” refers to a building made of horizontal layers of timber. This means that the architectural features are evident not only in individual memorials, but also in a traditional building form. During your stay, you can compare different kinds of local history: historic individual monuments, a former school building, and traditional architecture.

Two monuments in the village square

A Baroque sculpture of Saint John of God stands in the village square. It rises on a pedestal bearing a relief of Saint Florian and dates from 1782. Also in the village square is a Calvary monument: it depicts the body of Christ on a pedestal bearing a relief of the Virgin Mary and dates from 1774. The two monuments differ in their imagery and were created eight years apart. If you are interested in religious art, you can compare two distinct visual motifs in one place rather than treating them as a single monument.

Another sandstone monument is the “Křížek.” As part of a restoration project funded in 2008, it was moved into the built-up area of Nevratice. Benches and a litter bin were installed at the memorial site. The relocation is part of the monument’s history and took place at a clearly different time from the two older works in the village square.

The Javorka and the route to Chomutice

Nevratice lies on the banks of the Javorka River. The route between Nevratice and Chomutice is a specific option for outdoor activity, designed for pedestrians and cyclists; it runs alongside Road II/327. The municipality records its completion in 2018. This brings together two distinct aspects: the village’s riverside location and a named route designed for walking and cycling. If you plan to use the route, check current conditions before setting out.

When planning, you can decide whether you would rather explore the historic features of the village landscape or include an activity on foot or by bicycle. The route connects Nevratice and Chomutice.

Tips for visiting with children

There is a playground for younger children next to the municipal office. If you are travelling with small children, you can include this specific location in your plans.

One event with a clearly specified date is the “Nevratická Bludička”: on 21 June 2025, the local volunteer fire brigade held the eighth edition of this nighttime fire-sport competition for children and young people. This describes the 2025 edition; it is not confirmation of a future date. If an event is important to your trip, check its date before making plans.
