An Early Iron Age hillfort, a former granary with Renaissance traces and a protected wetland give Konecchlumí a variety of distinct attractions. The themes range from archaeological fortifications and historic architecture to habitats, art and monument design. This makes it easy to choose a focus for your visit: those interested in the area’s early history will find it at Hradiště Hůra; those interested in historic architectural features can turn their attention to Tvrz – sýpka; nature and local learning are the focus at Konecchlumský mokřad.

Archaeological history at Hůra

Hradiště Hůra is an Early Iron Age hillfort covering 0.75 hectares. The site is protected by a rampart and a ditch. The stated area gives a specific sense of scale, while the rampart and ditch describe its built form. Follow the red-marked path east towards the summit of Hůra to reach the smaller site. Its period, size and fortifications provide different points of reference for its archaeological significance: its historical context, area and layout.

Historic architecture in the north

The former fortress Tvrz – sýpka is located in a farmyard in the northern part of Konecchlumí. It was converted into a granary, so the fortress and granary represent different chapters in the building’s history. The complex includes an imposing two-storey building with remnants of Renaissance sgraffito on its façades, as well as an enclosure wall with arcades. The change of use and architectural details complement one another: the conversion illustrates the building’s new purpose, while the sgraffito and arcades define the complex’s design. Those interested in local history can consider both its former function and its distinctive architectural features.

Wetland and nature education

One natural attraction is Konecchlumský mokřad, a protected wetland in the northern part of Konecchlumí. A cascade of eight pools provides a habitat for numerous plants and animals. The pools give a concrete sense of the natural area, while its protected status further identifies it as a wetland. The Konecchlumský mokřad educational trail serves residents of Konecchlumí as a place for recreation, learning and nature education. Thus, as well as the pools’ habitat, recreation and nature education for the local community are distinct aspects of the area.

Art and monument

Kostel sv. Petra a Pavla houses 14 Stations of the Cross panels by Vladimír Komárek; they were consecrated on 31 March 2001. The artist, body of work and consecration date are all specified. The lion on the sandstone monument to Vilém Konecchlumský looks towards Prague. While the Stations of the Cross are a sequence of images within the church, the monument’s lion sets a different tone with the direction of its gaze. These offer two distinct cultural experiences: sacred art associated with a named artist and date on the one hand, and a monument with a striking orientation on the other.

Local history, architecture or nature

The themes offer different concrete features to guide your choice: at Hradiště Hůra, the focus is on its period, size and fortifications; at Konecchlumský mokřad, it is on the protected status, cascade of pools and educational trail’s role in the community. Tvrz – sýpka adds another perspective with its history of conversion and Renaissance traces.
