The Zrcadlo Pond in the eastern part of the village, forest paths and archaeological traces give Mlynec several clearly distinct facets. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether you would like to focus your stay mainly on nature, walking and cycling routes, or the history of the landscape.
Ponds, Forests and Protected Areas
The surroundings of Mlýnec are characterised by a Polabí landscape of ponds and forest areas, offering good conditions for recreation and stays in nature. Zrcadlo Pond lies in the eastern part of the village and is known among locals and visitors for its size and rich aquatic and birdlife. The forests around Mlýnec also attract different visitors: mushroom pickers as well as people seeking peace and quiet in nature.
The cadastral area of Mlýnec u Kopidlina lies within the Dymokursko Natura 2000 site and the Rožďalovické rybníky Bird Protection Zone. Dymokursko comprises a very well-preserved complex of deciduous forests, wet meadows and aquatic ecosystems. The bird protection zone safeguards the populations and habitats of the western marsh harrier and the common crane. The Rožďalovické rybníky Bird Protection Zone is also an important migration area for waterbirds and birds of prey, with up to 3,000–4,000 individuals.
For orientation, it is worth keeping the different scales in mind: Zrcadlo Pond is a single pond in the village, while Dymokursko and Rožďalovické rybníky refer to protected-area systems within which the cadastral area lies. This places a specific landscape feature alongside the habitats and bird populations of the protected areas.
Exploring on Foot or by Bike
The local paths make good destinations for walks and bike rides. A yellow-marked hiking route leads from Mlýnec railway station through the local forests to Bučický Pond. Hikers can follow this specifically named route; the local paths are also generally mentioned as destinations for bike rides. Before setting out, check the current route and markings so that your plans match the trail.
Archaeological Traces and Local History
The cadastral area of Mlýnec is a polycultural archaeological site, with finds dating from the Linear Pottery culture to modern times. Prehistoric, Early Medieval and High Medieval settlement traces have been identified near the Mrlina in the cadastral areas of Kopidlno and Mlýnec. The site spans the period from the Linear Pottery culture to modern times; the settlement traces identified along the Mrlina, by contrast, are prehistoric, Early Medieval and High Medieval. There is also a chapel southwest of Mlýnec.
