Pařezská Lhota lies north of the Prachov Rocks in a hilly landscape near the ruins of Pařez Castle. Three distinct themes come together here for trip planning: a sandstone castle complex, a forest climbing area and cycling routes that pass through the village. Not all activities follow the same seasonal schedule. When setting your travel dates, check climbing and the bike bus separately; you can consider the cultural attractions independently of these.

Pařez Castle and archaeological traces

The ruins of Pařez Castle stand on an isolated sandstone formation at the northwestern edge of the Prachov Rocks. Access to the castle was through a rock crevice. The surviving complex includes masonry fortification walls, a square tower, a palas and chambers carved into the rock. The masonry and rock-cut rooms together define the castle’s architectural character.

Another archaeological point of interest is the fortified hilltop settlement site of Prachov. Its archaeological site also includes the cadastral territory of Pařezská Lhota, where prehistoric burial grounds, ramparts and burial mounds are located. This offers a different way to explore the area’s cultural heritage than the castle: here, the focus is on archaeological traces in the landscape and burial sites.

Rocks, protected area and climbing

The Prachov Rocks are a nature reserve within the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. Pařezská Lhota is also part of the cadastral territory of the Prachov Rocks. Protected-area status places the rocks within the landscape conservation framework; climbing regulations, by contrast, set the seasonal limits for a specific activity.

The Pařezská Lhota climbing area is in the forest on the right-hand side of the road from Pařezská Lhota to Střeleč. Climbing is permitted from 1 April to 31 October; exceptions apply to individual rocks. Before climbing, check the local conservation regulations and take the exceptions for certain rocks into account.

Cycling routes and seasonal bus connection

The Jičín–Trosky cycling route passes through Pařezská Lhota. The Leknínová cycling route also goes through the village and to its water-lily ponds. These named destinations provide a clear point of comparison: Trosky on one route, the water-lily ponds on the other. If you want to plan your cycling around a destination, you can start with this distinction.

From 30 April to 30 September, you can use a tourist bike bus on the Jičín – Holín – Prachov Rocks – Pařezská Lhota – Mladějov – Sobotka – Podkost route. At the Holín, Pařezská Lhota, penzion stop, it is possible to transfer between two lines. Check the seasonal service and timetable before travelling.

When choosing your travel dates, it is worth comparing the periods directly: the climbing season runs from 1 April to 31 October, while the bike bus is available from 30 April to 30 September. The periods overlap, but they do not match exactly. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay focused on both activities, comparing these dates can help you choose when to travel; check the timetable and local climbing guidance for your specific dates.
