Choteč combines an annual music and theatre festival with a Baroque-remodelled church, a freely accessible sports area by the pond and a stream that flows through the village. There are also recurring flower exhibitions in the Lukscheiter greenhouses.

A stream between village and countryside

The Chotečský potok flows through Choteč, rises in the forests near Pustá Proseč and joins the Javorka at Šárovcova Lhota. Its course connects the village with a named source area and an equally clearly defined destination. As a natural feature, the stream complements the village’s cultural and event venues, so your visit need not focus on just one theme.

Sports area by the pond

In the western part of Choteč, by the pond, there is a freely accessible sports area with five courts. Facilities include a children’s playground with climbing equipment, swings, a slide and a sandpit, as well as an asphalt court, another tennis court, a pétanque court and a workout area. This brings different kinds of activity together, from a play area to courts for sport and training. Individual courts may have their own rules.

The sports area is a practical point of reference if physical activity is among your travel interests. The facilities listed are clearly intended for different uses, so you can consider which ones are relevant to your stay rather than reducing the village to a single sport.

Church and local memory

St Nicholas Church in Choteč was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1749–1750. A ceiling fresco depicts the legend of St Francis of Paola. The building’s history and its subject matter offer two different ways to engage with the church: its 18th-century transformation and the depiction of a saint’s legend.

Local history can also be found elsewhere. A plaque on house no. 4 commemorates the birthplace of the organist and composer Jan Křtitel Kuchař. The rectory was created by converting a former fortress and was completed in 1562. Together, these sites represent different historical connections—from a 16th-century building and the church’s Baroque remodelling to the memory of a musician.

Festival and recurring exhibitions

Kočí v Chotči is a music and theatre festival that has been held in Choteč since 1996. It takes place annually around the second Saturday in August. The venues are spread throughout the village and the surrounding countryside, including a playground, a pond, the church, a meadow and a forest. The festival is therefore shaped not only by its focus on music and theatre, but also by the distribution of its venues. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the date of the relevant edition.

Flower exhibitions are held regularly in the Lukscheiter greenhouses. They offer another recurring reason to visit Choteč. If you would like to include an exhibition in your plans, check the dates in advance. The festival and flower shows differ as reasons to travel: the festival takes place at a recurring annual time, while the exhibitions are held regularly.
