Tehovec appeals to travelers who want to discover a place through several layers of history. A possible mention in the 14th century, later changes in ownership, a documented pottery tradition, and a precisely dated fire offer different ways to explore the village’s history. The Rokytka stream, which rises nearby, and the Klokočná nature trail near Tehovec-Vojkov also add their own distinctive features to the landscape.

History in Several Layers

The period from August 11 to 20, 1373, is considered a possible first mention of Tehovec. In a church dispute in Prague, Ondřej from “Tehovec” is named; it remains unclear whether this refers to Tehovec or possibly Tehovičky. On March 13, 1407, Tehovec was listed among the villages acquired by the Monastery of St. Charles in the New Town.

The land registers list Tehovec with two ponds in 1513. A historical account from Podlipany also tells of a formerly important pottery tradition in Tehovec and weekly markets for pottery. The village’s history thus brings together a dated reference to bodies of water and a craft tradition accompanied by regular market activity.

The estate to which Tehovec belonged was sold to Prince Karl of Liechtenstein in 1623. His family held the estate until the land reform after the First World War. On April 28, 1866, a fire destroyed the farmsteads at house numbers 1 to 9, 14, 19, and 23, as well as the barns at houses 1, 2, 9, and 14.

For a clearer timeline, it is worth distinguishing between the possible mention of the name in 1373 and the changes in ownership: 1407 refers to the monastery’s acquisition, while 1623 refers to the sale of the estate to Karl of Liechtenstein. These milestones represent different periods in the village’s history, from the Middle Ages to the land reform after the First World War.

Waterways and Forestry

The Rokytka stream rises near Tehovec. The land registers also mention two ponds in 1513. This places a hydrological connection with the surrounding area alongside a historical reference to bodies of water from a different period.

PSB Klokočná is a demonstration site run by the state forestry administration for environmentally friendly management of state forests. It is intended for both specialists and the general public. For travelers interested in the practical aspects of forestry, this focus is clearly distinct from Tehovec’s local history.

Hiking and Event Date

The Klokočná nature trail starts near Tehovec-Vojkov, at the beginning of the yellow-marked hiking route on the Praha–Kutná Hora road. As trail conditions may have changed, check the current status on site. This allows you to use the stated starting point when planning your hike without assuming a particular walking time.

On April 30, 2024, the maypole was traditionally raised and a witches’ bonfire was held in the village square in Tehovec. If an event date is important to your trip, check the latest event information.
