Forests, Gorge and Local History

Hracholusky lies in the forests of Křivoklátsko. The Berounka Gorge forms the southeastern boundary of the municipality’s administrative area. For orientation, the two details can be distinguished: Křivoklátsko describes the wooded setting, while the gorge marks the southeastern edge of the municipality. Different visitor interests also come together here. Local history and traditional architecture offer a cultural and historical perspective; the hiking trail and geological attractions appeal to those interested in the landscape and the history of the Earth. When making your choice, therefore, the landscape is not the only relevant factor; consider whether you want to focus on the historical or natural history aspects.

Historical Traces and Building Styles

The first written mention of Hracholusky dates from 1379. Historically, Hracholusky was a fief that served Křivoklát Royal Castle. These two details shed light on different aspects of the past: the year marks an early point of reference in written records, while the feudal relationship links the village’s history to the Royal Castle. Those interested in history can thus consider both a point in time and the village’s former institutional relationship.

Surviving examples of traditional architecture include timber buildings and masonry buildings. The contrast between the materials offers a second perspective alongside the historical dates and feudal history: culture is expressed here not only through written records, but also through different building styles. Those viewing Hracholusky from a cultural and historical perspective can consider its architecture as a focus in its own right, alongside chronology.

Geology and Hiking

Čertova Skála is a geotourism attraction made of Neoproterozoic basalt with a characteristic pillow lava structure. The rock was formerly called spilite. These details reveal different aspects of the rock formation: the period places it in the history of the Earth, pillow lava describes its characteristic structure, and spilite is its former name. Čertova Skála is also a nature reserve within a protected landscape area; this protected status is part of its description, too.

At the Valachov natural monument are adits created by the mining of alum shale; Valachov is also a site where secondary sulfur minerals have been found. Mining traces and mineral deposits are found side by side here. This distinguishes this geological theme from Čertova Skála, whose description focuses on basalt and its pillow lava structure.

As of 2024, the red-marked KČT hiking trail Svatojakubská cesta is listed in Hracholusky. Čertova Skála can be reached from Hracholusky; you can park at the end of the village, from where it is about 650 metres to the rock. Before setting out, check the current route, parking and trail conditions, as these may change. For planning, two different details are available: the route of a named hiking trail and the approximate distance from the parking area to the rock.
