When planning a trip to Strážiště, two different interests come to the fore: recurring village events and traces of cultural history. At the end of November, a traditional lantern procession is held, accompanied by the release of balloons; in early December, the lighting of the Christmas tree in the village square traditionally marks the start of Advent. Jarní vánek is a traditional dance event held every year. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, you can choose between an annual dance celebration and two customs marking the transition into the Advent season. The events calendar may determine when you travel; the cultural and historical traces, by contrast, provide a thematic focus regardless of any particular event.
Village Events and Travel Dates
The dates at the end of November and in early December offer different highlights: the lantern procession focuses on the procession and the release of balloons, while the lighting of the Christmas tree in the village square marks the start of Advent. Jarní vánek adds a dance celebration to the recurring events. If you are travelling specifically for an event, check the date before booking.
Chapel, Wayside Shrine, and Historical Traces
The chapel stands in the village square and was reconstructed in 2000 in cooperation with the heritage protection authorities. The Boží muka wayside shrine ensemble in the Na Březinkách fields was restored in 2002. In Kozmice, a district of Strážiště, there is a stone statue of Christ crucified between two angels, dating from 1830. The 1830 statue predates the work on the chapel and wayside shrine ensemble by a considerable margin. The chapel was reconstructed in 2000 and the ensemble restored in 2002; these years refer to different work on different structures.
Monastery History and Local Finds
Historically, Strážiště was one of the 112 villages subject to the Cistercian monastery of Hradiště. This connection shifts the focus from individual structures to the village’s former institutional relationship with the monastery. Finds have also been made in the upper part of the Zábrtky valley, northwest of Strážiště. The number 112 places the village within a historical group, while the reference to finds identifies a specific stretch of landscape.
Ruins of the Pytlíkovský Mill
The ruins of the former Pytlíkovský Mill lie about two kilometres from Strážiště in the Zábrdka valley. The ruins are not an accessible public attraction, so do not plan to visit them as a public sightseeing stop. What remains are overgrown traces: collapsed walls of the building and machine room, stairs, and traces of the mill race.
Landscape and Hiking
The Strážiště district of Kozmice lies on a plateau between the valleys of the Zábrdka and Mohelka streams. For planning purposes, the plateau setting can be considered as a landscape theme; the blue-marked trail is a separate reference point for hiking. A blue-marked hiking trail runs near Strážiště. If hiking is part of your travel plans, check the markings on site before including the trail in your itinerary.
