Libiš brings together Protestant architectural history and a range of nature themes. The church “Evangelický kostel sv. Trojice,” the bee nature trail “Naučná stezka Libiš” and Špičákova zahrada each offer something different: historic interior design, knowledge about bees, and trees and park facilities. This distinction can help when planning your trip: you can shape your stay around cultural history or focus on nature trails and the outdoors.
Protestant Architectural History
The Protestant church “Evangelický kostel sv. Trojice” in Libiš was built between 1789 and 1792. It is one of the best-preserved examples of the original interior layout of Protestant prayer houses from the period of religious toleration. This makes more than just the construction period interesting: the preserved division of the interior is a distinctive architectural feature in its own right. Visitors interested in the church can focus on its history, from the time it was built to its preserved interior layout.
Bee Nature Trail and Tree Studies
The bee nature trail “Naučná stezka Libiš” has ten stops with information about the lives of bees and their products. It runs along the edge of Černínovsko and ends at the footbridge below Libušino náměstí. Both its subject and endpoint are clearly specified. The trail opened on November 25, 2023. If you plan to visit, check current access arrangements beforehand.
The dendrological nature trail in Špičákova zahrada introduces visitors to common and rare trees and shrubs in the revitalized park. Its focus differs clearly from that of the bee nature trail: trees and shrubs are the main subject in the garden, while the other trail focuses on the lives of bees and their products. When choosing a nature outing, you can therefore choose between two different topics and ways of learning.
Špičákova zahrada: Open Year-Round
Špičákova zahrada is open year-round and offers visitor facilities for people of all ages. A children’s playground was also built during the park’s revitalization. The park has also been equipped with facilities for hosting an open-air summer cinema and other social and cultural events.
When planning your schedule, it is worth considering access to the garden separately from specific events: the garden is open year-round, while a summer cinema or other event requires a suitable date. If you are travelling for a particular event, check in advance whether and when it is taking place.
Úpor–Černínovsko Natural Area
The Úpor–Černínovsko Nature Reserve offers another perspective on nature. It encompasses mixed ash-alder floodplain forests along major rivers, as well as rare and specially protected plant and animal species. The focus here is neither on individual trees and shrubs in a revitalized park nor on bees at a nature trail stop, but on a floodplain habitat and its protected species. This focus on the protected area complements the nature trails with a perspective on habitats and species.
