Stradonice can be explored through two distinct themes: the Stradonický mlýn represents folk architecture and milling technology, while local traditions link figures to Bačálky, Stradonice and the Zlonický potok. A Zvonička splněných přání, built near the mill, and recurring events add to the local history. The day of travel also matters when planning a bus journey.

The Mill and Water Power

The Stradonický mlýn, house number 22, is an example of folk architecture. The brick mill building has two storeys and dates from the second half of the 18th century. The complex also includes a single-storey outbuilding dating from the period between the 18th and 19th centuries. The different building styles and dates provide a tangible insight into the history of local construction.

A closer look at its former use takes us back to 1878: the watermill had three water wheels. Two powered the mill, while the third drove a sawmill. This connects the historical use of water power with both milling and sawing.

The Fortress and Local Traditions

The Stradonice fortress offers a different historical trace: it was first mentioned in 1505, was damaged during the Thirty Years’ War, and later disappeared. It should therefore be considered a vanished structure, not a surviving fortress.

According to local tradition, the Stradonice witch was called Makoša and lived in Bačálky; the ghost Kamtodám suddenly appeared in Stradonice after nightfall. The stories have different points of emphasis: one names a place of residence, while the other describes a ghost appearing at a particular time.

At the Zlonický potok, Vodník Bačálek is considered a local curiosity and a symbol of the region. Unlike the stories of Makoša and Kamtodám, this figure is primarily associated with the stream. Those interested in local traditions will find a variety of motifs and place references here, without the three tales being combined into a single story.

The Bell Tower and Events

The Zvonička splněných přání was built near the mill in 2014. A gathering with hunters takes place there every year. If you would like to include this gathering in your travel plans, ask locally about the next date and check the current condition of the site.

Stradonice’s events calendar regularly includes cultural events, outings and traditional gatherings. These include an All Souls’ Day procession and the lighting of a tree. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, ask locally for the specific dates.

Getting There by Bus

Stradonice is served by bus route 220126 between Slaný, Klobuky and Vraný. The route schedule lists five services towards Vraný and four towards Slaný; there is no bus service at weekends. Check current departure times before your trip, especially if you are travelling at the weekend.
