Bílichov brings together forests, protected animal species, a remarkable variety of plants and distinctive architecture. The forests invite you to go for walks and pick mushrooms; the Bílichovské údolí adds specific animal and plant species to the nature theme. In the village, the Chapel of St. Wenceslas provides a cultural contrast. A children's area with play and learning stations broadens the range of things to explore. When planning a stay, you can choose what to focus on: nature, architecture or playful and educational features.

Forests, Valley and Protected Species

Forests surround Bílichov in a horseshoe shape to the north, west and south. Walking and mushroom picking are two different ways to include the forest landscape in your travel plans: a walk focuses on the routes through the surrounding area, while mushroom picking involves searching for mushrooms.

The specially protected species in the Bílichovské údolí include the red squirrel, stock dove and Alpine newt. These three species belong to different groups: the red squirrel is a mammal, the stock dove a bird and the Alpine newt an amphibian. The nature theme thus extends from the forest and its paths to specific animal species.

One botanical highlight is the black false hellebore (Veratrum nigrum). The Bílichovské údolí is home to the largest population of this species in the Czech Republic, comprising around 5,000 plants. Its botanical name complements the common name and clarifies which plant species is meant.

The Bílichovské údolí was formed by headward erosion. Put simply, erosion works its way back from the valley further towards its source. The village's geographical setting also extends beyond the immediate landscape: most of Bílichov's cadastral area lies on the southeastern side of the Džbán Nature Park.

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas: Location and Architecture

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas stands in the eastern part of Bílichov, on slightly elevated ground above the village square. It is built of stone, has a rectangular floor plan and a semicircular apse. The apse is the liturgical choir area; its shape gives the rectangular floor plan a differently designed end. The material, floor plan and interior shape provide three specific features to consider when looking at the architecture. The chapel is therefore a clear cultural focal point alongside the valley and forest nature themes.

Play and Learning Stations in the Children's Area

The children's area in Bílichov includes, among other things, a knowledge tower, a jumping pit, an acoustic memory game, a dendrophone, a tree house, a rotating play element, educational sculptures, a waste-sorting station, a front-facing lectern and an observation station with a model. The features offer a variety of activities: the jumping pit and rotating play element encourage movement, while the acoustic memory game and dendrophone focus on sound. The knowledge tower, educational sculptures, waste-sorting station and observation station add a learning dimension. This gives the area a distinct theme alongside walks, mushroom picking and the architecture of the chapel.

There are several interests to choose from when deciding what to focus on during a stay: the forest landscape and its walking and picking opportunities, the valley's distinctive species, the chapel's specific architectural form, and the playful and educational features of the children's area.
